Title: Rear Brake Pedal Went to the Floor - '14 Limited
Post by: DeeGee2 on April 20, 2018, 08:32:28 PM
Went for a leisurely backroad ride today. While doing a u-turn slipping the clutch and dragging the brake, the pedal went all the way to the floorboard. My instant and wrong response was pulling in the clutch. The bike dropped to the crash bar. No damage.

I picked it up and rode on to the local dealership with pnly the front brake working. Good thing I have an ESP. ;)

I'll update what went wrong with the rear  brake once they give a diagnosis.

The service manager called. Said the rear brake link cracked and split open.

Looks like I'm getting the new and expensive Dot 4 fluid in half the system. Maybe they will also do the front under warranty...doubtful.

Not sure what he's calling a rear brake link, since there is no such thing in the parts list.  If he means one of the brake lines split, that is a serious defect that shouldn't exist on a four year old bike.

Line burst and looked like a split open crack.
Link was a typo.

Line splitting is pretty rare and very scary. Least it was the rear and not the front where the real stopping force is. Sorry to hear you had this problem.
