Not good for MoCo. Or any of our EU friends that are thinking of a new bike.

I recall in the 80s when the MoCo was trying to turn around, HD got our govt. to impose tariffs on heavyweight Japanese bikes. I imagine the EU is trying to do the same for their manufacturers.

Holly crap...

What a petty game. We should ban 2 fold on EU crap!

Since Britian is no longer a member of the EU, People in the UK will buy them like crazy and sell them to the EU countries at a 30% mark up. Brexit paved the way for that.

It'll be good news for those that already have Harley-Davidsons and are considering moving on. Second hand prices will get a boost perhaps?

I remember that. If I recall correctly the tariff was imposed on anything over 900cc. Harley had the 1200cc Shovelhead Big Twin and the 1000cc Ironhead Sportster. HD wanted to corner the market on big bikes. So the Japanese built a bunch of dependable 600cc and 750cc bikes, and even a few 900. To get over the import tariff, Kawasaki opened a plant in Nebraska where they made the KZ1000s. Adding insult to injury, the California Highway Patrol, LAPD and many other police departments across the nation chose the KZ1000 as their motorcycle of choice for 30 years.
Trade Wars and Tariffs.

I imagine it was 700cc and above. I once had an 87 Honda VF700C Supermagna. Rest of the world got it as a VF750 but in the US it was a 700 due to import taxes.

Yup. The Yamaha Maxim X was one of those bikes. They were only made in 1985 and 1986. The international market got the 750 CC and in the U.S. it was a 700 CC. I bought one new in 1986 and still have it.
