Title: Dougherty PowerPACC or K&N RK series
Post by: Steve_G on February 21, 2006, 04:35:55 PM
I am definately not going with the HD SE aircleaner kit.  For an extra hundred dollars, I can get the Doherty PowerPACC and pick up 4 additional horses.  However, I just saw an ad for the new K&N RK kit, which also has a radiused inlet that looks somewhat the along the same line as the Doherty kit.  I'm wondering if anyone out there has any further info on this?   ::) Steve_G

Thought I'd send a copy of some info on the new K&N RK series air filter kit that I just got off the internet. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]-Steve

what are you guys thinking?  If you look closely at the K&N  venturi it dose not look like a proper venturi like the Dougherty.

Just checked,  looks like a cheezy wanna be.  Don't have any particulars but just looks cheezy.  Doherty is the way
IMHO.

I also ordered the Doherty PowerPACC. [smiley=banana.gif] I looked up the K&N web site, and they gave me a toll free number to a dealer in my area.  I called that dealer, and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about.  That really inspired confidence.  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Cut out the middleman. Call Doherty on their 800 number and buy direct. PM Screamin_Beagle He has the number. Odds are if you have a bunch of questions, the secretary will put Tim Doherty on the line. Super guy.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

It states on the website that it (powerpacc) will fit over stock round and oval covers, will it also fit over the teardrop on my FatBoy?

Dunno,   Call Tim and ask him,  I know that the tear drop is a little smaller so I'd just give him a shout and ask.......Mention this web site, he'll take care of you....

My problem was with the depth of my cover,to use it i had to put a 1" spacer between the filter and the cover so it would tighten up but it felt as though it was not very stable, felt like it would wind up breaking off to me,so i just bought his cover, like i said i did like they way the stock one looked,so if you figure a way to use it please let me know, thanks

Ok, educate me on this one.     [smiley=duhk.gif]

I went out to Doherty's web site and peeked at the pretty pictures and they offer for the EFI/TC88 a kit with either the breather tube or one with the powervents for the same money.

What is the group's consensus (advantages) of buying one kit over the other?

I don't believe my ride has an oil/crankcase pressure issue...at least the last time I looked at the air cleaner it wasn't goobered up and I haven't monkeyed with any of the engine internals so it's basically the standard 103.
