Hottest 95 - 98 build
« on: January 10, 2016, 06:25:27 PM »

Been having a fun chat in PM and email with a user here.  One of the many good "friends" we make without ever actually meeting them; at least so far.

It'a been a fun "fish story" chat on old bikes.  First on ones we've had than on ones we've only seen.  We went through Evo's and kind of exhausted things.  Then realized our limited early Twin Cam fish stories has way too many holes in it.  So everyone else play along.

What are the details of the hottest 95" or 98" first gen Twin Cam builds you ever did when bumping up your old 88"?  Extra points if it was actually streetable on a big bike!  :drink:

In 2005, 95" HTCC CNC heads, WT-46G cams, Thunderheader, 110hp/109tq. Bike was a 2004 Roadglide, street manners were excellent. A set of Jims lifters put an end to it.  >:(

Hottest/streetable/big bike is a tall order. There's a couple good recommendations made above.
I've done the 570 on 95"ers with great results.

The 'big bike' part will limit the how"hot" you can/should go. Best thing you can do is be honest with
yourself as to how you plan to use it.

Building something to blow away your nemesis one time then having to live with something with bad
manners after that is not a good way to go. Been there done that.

Go with something that makes good flat torque and let the HP fall where it may... just an opinion from
an old fart...

If you want something that does it all, put a 120 in it. lol

3 of my bikes have carbs, 2-S&S, 1- Mik
anywhere from about 70 hp to over 100 hp
Yep, still like 'em.

I had a 2000 RKC with 95" kit and the SE Heads and 203 cams. Never had it tuned just used a Techlusion box and it pulled my tent trailer and 2up and my riding buddies wondered how I walked away from them in the hills.

Just realized I'd not shared.  My favorite 95" build was on a 2000 Road King.  Mackie did work to the head I no longer remember all the details of.  Used his 598 cam.  Engine was at about 10.5:1.  50mm TB.  It handled great at parking lot speeds, rolled on well and smoothly and on the two lanes would accelerate from 45-50 to 90 to pass a truck like a bat out hell.  If memory serves it dyno'd on John Golden's machine in the low one-teens and held nice and flat from about 2800 through about 4500.  Was a great road bike.

My 2003 anniversary RG bought new had dealer install the 95 inch kit with HD 203 cam and Rhinehart true duals, It was ok but I grew tired of it after a year or so and took it to Johnson Engine Technology in R.I. for his JET performance 95 in kit. Welded ported polished & decked heads Andrews 37G cams tuned with Direct Link Yes felt like the bike had life in it. Traded it in 09 for my CVO RG!.....
