Front Motor Mount SEEG
« on: October 25, 2017, 04:15:46 PM »

2005 SEEG.  Looks like the front motor mount has given out.  I currently have a Glide Pro mount in there now and not sure if I want to replace it with same.  I know this is like an oil thread but what does everybody like for the older model bikes?  I'm OK going back to HD, just looking for something that will smooth things out and last a while.

Thanks,

Chris

I went back to the HD mount when I had the '08. Originally I replaced the original to 'stiffen up' the handling. I can't remember the brand...but it like a hockey puck compared to stock. The a few months later while wandering around Washington it 'ripped' and was metal on metal....previous to the rip it also might have transferred some added vibes. Replaced with a new stock mount and never thought about it again....until now.

Just replaced my 08 with the current HD unit - as per Jim's (hd-dude) recommendation.

Yes sir.  That round widget up front is the front motor mount.  If you see it ripped definitely get it replaced right away.

Going with suggestions, I went the my local dealer to get a replacement mount.  I had read of the Buell (L0501.2) mounts being similar to the "older" "B" style design so I asked if they had any left over (they used to sell Buell).  They had one so I am going to give it a try.  Had a "C" mount in there for a while - before the Glide Pro and didn't care much for the increased vibration at idle/lower speed.  Guessing that the new "D" version isn't much better.

Getting the cooler loose and out of the way isn't that big a deal.  Don't let it dissuade you.  My process to change a front mount is to move whatever has to be moved to allow easy (enough) access and to get the long bolt out.  Take the nut off the bottom.  Support the motor with a little scissor jack I've got laying around.  Swap the mounts.  Reassemble.  Rarely more than a 30-40 minute job.

I am looking at replacing my motor mount and the motor frame mount does anyone recommend what I should replace them with. I have seen a urethane and rubber ones and I can not choose. Who is making the best one or upgraded one?

As far as the motor frame mount I am just looking for something nicer, stronger, billet.

Any help would be nice.

Thank you

Finally got around to swapping the mount, it was a little more involved than I wanted it to be but it’s done now.  Here’s the old one:
