Rear shocks Q.

To replace the rear air shocks on my 07 ultra classic
What (without breaking the bank) would be a good"none air" shock to replace the existing one's
I have the stock ones on at the moment the eye to eye mesument is 13inch.
I've been looking but not sure what to go with.
Any suggestions would be a big help.

I put a set of 13 1/2" Progressive rear shocks on my 2009 Street Glide and I was happy with them. It was a large improvement over the stock HD 12" air shocks and they are fairly inexpensive.

what do you consider 'breaking the bank'?  probably entirely different to you than it is to me.

less than $600?  you can get ohlins for that.

less than $300?  i'd be looking for a set of the premium hand adjustable in 13''.  12'' are better than stock, but still pretty harsh.

less than $20?  try draining and replacing the shock fluid.  did that on the wife's bike and she is very happy with the ride.  of course, you still have an air shock, so if your main goal is to get rid of them, this won't do it.  but if your main goal is a better ride, you might be happy with it.

As skratch said above, braking the band means a little different to all. My suggestion would be buy a set of Ohlins and be done. If you follow the same process I did you will end up spending more money long term buy buying cheap to only decide that they don't quite do what you wanted. It only takes that once to be at the price of the Ohlins and you won't be disappointed that way.

The bank quote was sort of meaning in the 500 and up range

I've renewed the seals on these Showa 54565-97c stock shocks once already and one is seeping again

I'm  just looking for a reasonable priced adjustable  shock that will do the job as I really don't have much of an idea.

I have sent an email to progressive shocks asking about their Progressive 412 shock if it is suitable  for my 07 ultra classic,  they've yet to get back to me.

don't know that i'd go that route.  most folks that I've seen get 412s regret the purchase and end up with something else.

I would be one of those. I went Progressive, JRI, and now Ohlins. Have a fortune tied up in shocks. I have to admit though it is all my fault. I was told from the beginning to buy Ohlins.  Just passing my experience along.

First let me say 80% or our riding is 2up. With the Progressive's I never could get them to perform the way I want. They were either rock hard or so soft they would bottom. JRI'S performance wise worked well and gave us the ride and performance we were looking for, but after 2 sets of seals for leaks I gave up and went to the Ohlins.

Yes the gentleman that I bought my Ohlins from is a dealer for them and he needed my weight, passengers weight, and aprox weight of all our junk. Best ride we have ever had both loaded or empty.

    Why did I wait so long,.....

                 New shocks installed today.  What a difference it's a much softer ride.

Which kind did you choose? The chrome looks good but most important is you are happy with the ride.

   They're  Drag shocks,  I didn't order chrome but that's what came I was surprised when I opened the box to see chrome.
