Fuel Moto CNC CVO Heads?
« on: November 26, 2018, 01:25:46 PM »

So, I just pulled the trigger on the 110 to 117 kit (92500054). Thinking of doing the Fuel Moto CNC CVO Heads at the same time. Anyone have experience with them?  Thoughts on better options?  Thanks in advance.

Send your heads and cylinders to Sachs or WFOLarry.   Ignore all the PM’s your gonna receive from this post.

Find out how much your pistons are in the hole and get to a zero deck.

I love FM stuff and built my old NT using one of their packages including level B heads before they used CNC but i feel that their CNC head work is a little pricey and doesn't include larger valves. Plus throwing on 650 valve springs just for fun seems overkill also. The 259e cam maxes out at 579
Im pretty much sold on hdstreetperformance.com doing my heads once i get a decent set of cores to send him. Way more reasonable pricing, specific porting based off my needs and will set CC for my compression. http://hdstreetperformance.com/harleydavidsonheadporting.html all for $599 or another $100 if you do want the overkill springs.

CNC porting just means every head they produce is identical, not necessarily better. If anything, CNC porting should be cheaper, not more expensive.

If there is core shift in the castings which most of the heads have the CNC program won’t address it .

Rather have hands on, do what they can to improve the heads.

CNC porting is still misunderstood, and not all CNC porting is created equal.

Imo it should be part of the process not "the process"

A good porting program combined with hand finishing and testing" airflow/volumes,velocity "is the best way to create consistent quality heads

Can you provide the same quality and consistancy doing them by hand?

Sure.....but not many can.....in fact very few can

People might be surprised at how far off hand ported heads can be.

Was suggested that CNC ported heads should be cheaper

Somewhat true if all you are doing is just CNC work.....surface and assemble
What should cost the same or more is the handwork that goes into finishing them

with the inconsistancy of cvo 110 heads, they dont lend themselves to CNC porting as other HD heads IMO.I get very good results with hand porting them.with 2.100/1.650 valves, you dont have to get real crazy with them to get 310-320 CFM

CNC is just a copier, if you copy a mediocre port then that's what you'll get.
There are allot of CNC'ed ports out there that just aren't that good.

I'm not talking about any particular "brand".

Thanks for everyone’s input an a little FYI ...

After researching and talking to a few people I ended up sending the heads to Mr. Don at HD Street Preformance ( http://hdstreetperformance.com/index.html ). I am very pleased with how everything turned out between the H-D kit and the head work. I can’t wait to get the 500 mile break-in out of the way to truly be able to appreciate the combination. The seat of the pants feel is already a noticeable difference.

Don at HD Street Performance did my heads for me 70k miles ago. They performed great for me over the years. Even though the 110 engine was still strong with 90,000 miles on it I decided to retire it. I recently ordered a new S&S 124 engine through Don and I'm looking forward to receiving it in the next couple of weeks. I've learned to stick with vendors that you can trust, are knowledgeable and give you a fair price.

I don't care who people use quite honestly. It's the back stabbing bullchit PMs that get on my nerves.

I don't really need more business. I do this for fun, not money. And my stuff is as
good (or better ) than anything out there.

P.S: That "guy in NY" you speak of, is a hack, so please don't lump me in that camp.

Thanks and good luck.

I have heard this about don for a while,i would hope a porter wouldn't send PM`s saying BS about another head porter, ive never had a customer say they ever received a PM talking me down from him (or anyone else).like MCE,im semi retired & actually am busier than I want to be,so I dont bad mouth any one to get work.BTW,the "guy in ny" is a friend of mine and has been around a long time & have never seen any hack work from there,i have seen pretty scary chit from many different places, but I still wouldn't start name calling on the internet or on forums

I HAVE seen examples of those PM's, if people have to drum up work that way, it's pretty
f--ked up. (Kirby, I think we're talking about Two different people. The one I was referring to

I'm as busy as I want to be, Lets leave it at that.
What business is it of yours  (You don't know me).

PS:
Believe it or not I don't do this for the money! I do
it because I enjoy the challenge and love seeing
the dyno results from my efforts.

I couldn't care less about the monetary aspects.
That's the beauty of it. I own everything I have and
I don't NEED the money. So yeah, I give huge discounts
to the people I like ;)

Take care now,

You made it my business when you replied to my post.
If you didn't care about the monetary aspect, then why bad mouth other guys who port, publicly, on your VENDOR posts? Why do you care about PM's, to drum up work. There's a few on this site that do it.

No sour grapes involved whatsoever
In fact
Had Don not said anything...I would not have either.
