Here is a socket from Sears that works good http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00950752000P?keyword=36mm+1%2F2+drive+socket or you can buy a Kastar 9636 wrench, if you have after market shocks it may not work. http://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDisplay.cfm?lookup=KAS9636 hope this helps

Same here - I went to the local Harbor Freight store and bought a cheap wholesale crows foot.  It is the only thing I use it for, so cheap is fine...   :2vrolijk_21:

TB when you do tighten the rear axle...make sure that the tool you use will allow you to connect a torque wrench to it.

Too much torque on the rear axle will cause too much side load on the wheel bearings..causing them to go bad....very fast!!!!

Very good point.  Too little torque can result in the obvious problem, but too much torque can also lead to failures.  I'm not sure how touchy the new style bearings are, but the old style bearings (pre-2000) would fail fairly rapidly if over torqued.

Would anyone have a part number for the Harbor Freight crows foot tool?  I did a search on their website and couldnt find the 36mm part.
Thanks

I was just thinking, mark that down, that on most applications that use a side load against bearing inner races, they have a shim pack or properly spaced sleeve on the inside between the two inner races.  This allows lots of pre-load on the mounting but limits the side load on the inner races.

I don't have a parts book for this bike, is there a sleeve between the wheel bearings?  I would be surprised if there wasn't one.

Just my 2ยข.

Can someone check it out on the sleeve?

Thanks.

Harbor Freight buys all kinds of overstock and remaining stock that comes and goes.  Their catalog only contains the items they typically stock, but it doesn't contain all the odds and ends they come across.  You never know when you walk in the door what you might find.  A lot of what they sell is poor quality, but much of it is good stuff.  If there was not a local store, I probably wouldn't buy much from them (unless it is a brand name I recognized) unless I could lay eyes on it.
