No real problems with mine. Sometimes after filling up it needs pushed down a couple of times to stay. I to Love my 07 Springer. It still gets a lot of attention by on lookers.

Same as ICE6900, Trim ring doesn't like to stay on the tank. Gas softens the clear silicone and thats it again.

I have had mine replaced once, the new one has also blown apart on more than one occasion. Guess I will have to pick up another.

I got sick of that gas cap and with a guy that had the old style that you can grab a hold of, the trade made us both happy.

Mine just blew apart today!! Hope I found all the pieces! Just blew apart sitting on the pump while I was gassing. I'm not sure how it goes back together. I have the extended warranty. Is the cap covered?

Warranty should cover it, just make sure they change it out. Some dealers would rather say it won't happen again or that you took it off wrong. It is a design flaw!

the trim ring is supposed to have double sided tape holding it on, not silicone......

The doublesided tape gave out a while ago. This was the dealers fix.

HD does sell just the trim ring by itself........(I wonder why???? LOL)

I believe a brand new trim ring costs around $12.00
if it's still under warranty, they should have replaced it, not stuck it back on with silicone....

One was replaced under warranty when it just came apart. Just paid to replace it after it fell off a gas pump. Neither time was I able to get the small gasket to reseal that keeps gas out of the inside of the cap.

i had to have mine replaced also, it didn't fall apart, it just didn't lock down any more.  they replaced it under warranty, a comment was made by the dealer that this is a common problem

Mine fell apart, but I snapped it back together. It's spring-loaded and can become undone, especcialy if you ever dropped it. But when it pops apart, you can usually put it back together again. I carry a regular gas cap in my saddlebag, JIC! ;)

Mine fell apart 800 miles from home when I took it off to fill up.  Luckly I was able to get it not to leak, but was not able to lock it back down flush. No dealers in the area had one.  :nixweiss:

I've gone through 3 and am close to the 4th.  I carry a spare gas cap in my bags, too.  It's too bad, because I really like the clean lines of the flat gas cap.

As far as I know it's all of the spring loaded twist and lock flush caps. Mine is a 2008.

My first cap "exploded" after about a year.  Another year has gone by and now I have the dealer ordering another cap to replace the second "exploder".  ('08 Sprinter)

I haven't looked at other flush mounted caps at the dealerhips but is it common for the gas cap to be above the ring by about 3/16". The reason I ask is because the fuel gage side is perfectly flush.

Is ther an adjustment that can be made?

I don't know about any adjustment.  When mine was still on the bike, it was above the trim ring and the fuel gauge side was flush.  I've given up, though.  They spring apart like a jack-in-the-box, the trim ring came off 3 times and I am now using the regular gas cap on one side and the original cap on the fuel gauge side.  Not the best look, but I am also tired of the glue getting all over the paint from the repairs.  Tape, glue, silicone- whatever they have used.  I haven't checked the O-ring seal.  I just got tired of the hassle.  Mine is an 08.

Ok, had to stop for gas this morning on way to work (5am) and cap rolled off the pump and blew apart. I only saw two pieces, plugged them together and put it back on and went to work.

Well now I can't get the thing off....

#1. Anyone have any suggestions short of drilling it apart?

#2. Anyone know the list price of a new flush cap?

Thanks,
Kevin.....

I've bought two, last one for same thing happened to you. Can't recall price for sure, but think it was $60 range. I'd be careful about drilling a gas cap. How about one of those rubber friction pads used for jar lids?  Good luck.
