Installing Bluetooth BOMM in CUSE4
« on: September 14, 2009, 02:55:16 PM »

I just bought the Bluetooth BOMM from Jim Bissonette, http://home.comcast.net/~jbissonette1/site/   who is on our vendor list , offering a 15% discount to CVO forum members.  It came the other day and I installed it on my CUSE4.   Initial trials show it works as advertized.  Happy to have access to cell while on a trip.

Anyway here is the step by step of the install for anyone curious.

Here is the BOMM as it arrived.  Looks like a pipe bomb - wonder how it makes it through the postal inspection?

View inside fairing.  BOMM will sit on top of radio when installed.

This is looking at the back of the radio.  The 28A connector is the one on the right. Its the wider of the two radio connectors.

The 28A connector has a big plastic conduit around the wire bundle.  Carefully slice open the black tape holding it together.

This will expose the two Gray intercomm wire bundles.  You can't see these before you unwrap the end of the conduit.

Work only on the Driver's intercomm bundle (unless you bought the dual BOMM).

The driver's bundle has a White, Red, Black and A Bare wire.  The Passenger's does not have a White wire.

Strip away some insulation on the red and black wires. They give you a couple of crimp connectors but I never trust that stuff so I always solder my connections.  It should work either way - choice is up to you.

... solder the Red BOMM wire to the Red intercomm wire and the Black BOMM wire to the black Intercomm wire

Finished splice and wrapped with electrical tape.  You could use shrink wrap too.

I have a ZUmo 660.  When I wired that up I stored most of the octopus inside the fairing.  Attach the RCA type plug from the BOMM to the appropriate connector on the octopus.  The other jack you see in the picture (on the left) runs from the Zumo octopus to the Aux jack on the radio.

The instructions from the BOMM say to thread the wire out a fairing port to the Zumo. Its not needed with the 660. That may be the case if you have a 550.  Someone who has that model can chime in as I don't know how 550's wer configured.

BOMM wired up and tie-wrapped to the upper conduit above the radio.  Tested it and it works good!

Hope this is helpful....

cheers!

I was very nice of you to post this installation for the 660. You will have to run the 2.5mm mono plug through the fairing following the bars for the 550 as the microphone input jack is located on the 550's mount.

I would also suggest using some electrical tape to tie the 2.5mm jack and plug together, just in case. It would be a real pain if they were to separate due to vibration.

Thanks again I will refer to this post for other with the 660.
