Kuryakyn LED headlight installation
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:32:14 PM »

For the SESG 2010 models that have the dual separate bulbs for high and low beams ( H11 & H8 I believe), how do you connect the Kuryakyn LED light? In other words, how does the existing harness connect to the new lamp? Reason I ask is that I am interested in the lamp but didn't know what quirks may exist in it's installation on the dual bulb SESG.

Take a look at the website:  L.E.D. Headlamp #2261.  The part replaces the entire headlamp housing

Kuryakyn claims:

"This revolutionary new headlamp is the first to use advanced L.E.D. technology integrated into a one-piece stylish & functional DOT headlamp! Add improved visibility at a fraction of the cost compared to HID or incandescent headlamps without adding heat or having to hide any excess wiring or electrical ballast! Mounts directly in place of the stock headlamp & the electrical plugs right into the stock headlight connector - Just simple hand tools & a few minutes is all it takes! Additional benefits include added reliability (50x longer than incandescent bulbs), energy efficiency (less power draw) & a stronger/wider beam for enhanced night riding. This L.E.D. headlamp is simply the ultimate lighting accessory for your bike - Nothing else compares!"

Good luck!

it should be plug and play. you should have a harness that takes the standard H4 and splits it to the dual halogen setup.

Thanks naitram, so if I understand you, the SESG has an adapter harness that plugs into the original H4 harness (for stock non-CVO SGs) which allows connection to the halogen dual bulb assembly (which is normally an option on non-CVOs). All I then need to do to connect the LED, is remove this intermediate harness and essentially leave an H4 connection.

should be that easy. only possible gotcha is if you have the garage door opener connected to the intermediate harness

The H4 harness, or "module" is stuck to the inside of the fairing. Once the headlight assy is out you "may" be able to reach a hand in and pull it loose. Remove the splitter and connect to the LED assy.
The module is on the right when standing in front of the bike.
With the outer fairing removed it all makes sense...

Makes sense. I have had the fairing off several times for speaker and amp installs. I' ll be popping it off in the near future anyway so I'll kill two birds with one stone then. Thanks for the help.

I just installed the TL/Kuryakyn LED headlight and Passing lights. Very pleased with the fit (I have the HD Visor trim rings) and the lighting. I like the Kury headlight better than the HD because its far more visible during the day than the focused beam HD LED. The HD is better at night but 90% of my riding is daytime so I'll take the improved daytime visibility over the slightly better HD nighttime visibility. The Kury is substantially better at night than the stock bulb in my 2010 SEUC.

I do have one question...since the Kury bulb bypasses the split harness used for the hi/lo beam on the stock bulb, how do I get my garage door opener to function? Anyone figure this one out?

Heatwave, you can get a splitter harness.  I used it when I installed my LED headlight.  Part number 70423-98.  No cutting or splicing necessary.  Plug and play.  Posted pictures of splitter in this thread  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=53078.0;all

Not sure if they are 5's or 6's but for the money I don't care, may later, but then I will sell the headlight and buy another if it is an issue.
