I did and added the LED Aux lamps too. It was very easy and improved night visibility a lot.

What all do you get for the $500.00 ? Is the lens protected from rocks (plexiglass)?

I replaced mine with the LED headlamp, I am riding a FLHX. I wanted more visibility (due to the absence of the spots) in the daylight for safety reasons. I believe you need to operate the headlight on high beam to make a noticeable change in visability for safety reasons.
When riding at night it lights up the roadside a lot better that the original.
Is it worth the $500.00 bucks, if ride often at night it is a must.

I don't know if the lens is plexi or glass. It sounds like plexiglass. The LED lamps themselves are smaller subassemblies in the housing so even if the lens takes a shot the LED would still work (for a while anyway). The kit comes with the lamp assembly and a new mounting ring. The housing of the LED lamp is different than the stock HID so you have to take the old one off and replace it with the new. Just three more screws once the HID is out. You also remove the ballast from the stock harness (it just unplugs). I had my headlight realigned at the dealer after I changed it. It took them about 5 minutes and they didn't charge.

I replaced both the headlamp and the passing lamps but now my garage door opener doesn't work - anyone have a workaround for this?

Yep.  Plug and Play if you use the splitter cable Part #70423-98.  Worked for me.

 :-\
MY GDO quit working too, and I used the recommended harness #71628-04.   This will fix the GDO to work again,  but in my case it was more than "plug and play"............No way to reach the end of the connector that this new harness has to replace,  without removing the (outer) fairing.

Once that is done,  it's all accessible and easy to do.   While in there,  if you have any interest in making a quick fix to enable your passing lamps to work (Both ways),  when using hi beam and also lo beam.............See my related post for the details.
