Radio cuts in and out
« on: June 30, 2012, 08:15:22 PM »

I looked could not find a tread regarding stock radio cutting in and out.
I have a 2010 SESG, and my stock radio is now cutting in and out, mostly out. Just started doing this today, anyone know if there is a known issue with the HK units?
BTW tried CD, radio, aux all the same.

Can you get it to come back on by flipping the speaker switch on/off numerous times? There's something stupid in the circuit board, as it cracks and flipping the switch makes it work. Search Iron Cross, they'll fix it.

Thanks everyone for your input, I guess i have something to learn about baggers, where is the speaker switch?  :nixweiss: I have tried switching the stereo off and back on again, this seems to reset the stereo, however within seconds it's back off again. I gave up on it yesterday and forgot to shut off the stereo, and while peacefully cruising' along to the beat of the motor, the stereo decided to kick back on for a brief second, freaked the sheet out of me!!!!
I know this is a question for my dealer, however I will ask here as well, would this be covered under the extended warranty?

Not expert on SESG but I don't think you have a speaker switch.  On the ultras with ability to connect a headset you can set the speaker switch to send audio through the headset or the external speakers.

The radio is covered by the ESP (extended service plan) so get it to the dealer and let him figure it out for you.

The wife has had hers replaced twice by the dealer for this problem also.  Has about 600 miles on this one.  Hope it holds out but at least the dealer is aware of the problem and gives her a quick turn around.  We are lucky to have a great service department at our dealer.

One of the radio circuit boards develops a crack in it. The ESP will fix it, but only with another board that cracks down the road. Iron Cross has developed a fix that prevents the board from cracking again. So you can spend $50 each time it cracks until warranty runs out, then $250 to fix it or just spend the $250 and have it done.

That's what happened to my first one, second one and third one... after that I had enough and sent it to Iron Cross... no more problems!

Not defending ESP or disputing multiple failures . . . but ESP states that if problem you already paid the $50 deductible to fix occurs again you do not have to pay the deductible again.

You can have your dealer contact the ESP service and request they send the radio to us.
We do ESP service on the radios for alot of dealers.
