Air Horn needed in different location
« on: July 01, 2013, 03:08:46 PM »

With the procharger its hard to find a spot to put a airhorn. Anyone have any experience with where I could adapt one to fit. Tired of people trying to run over me. I was thinking maybe a tab on one of the down tubes around the bottom of the sharknose?

Be careful of mounting 'anything' between the downtubes and front fender... there's a lot more compression going on than you might realize.

I have a 'Custom' fender thanks to my lack of knowledge regarding the compression of the front end after I mounted my Piaa sports horns above the oil cooler.   :o

It looked like the perfect spot... had a pre-drilled hole and everything.   8)

If you don't mind butchering one of the Stebel horns you can use the horn in it's stock location and mount the compressor remotely.  It's been awhile for me but someone saw this old thread just a couple months ago the last time and sent me a PM saying they were the latest to do this deed.

Give Mike a call at Pro Pad he is about ready to deliver what you might be after in the short term future and is using a louder horn than what we have seen from them in the past.

Its not on there yet which is why i suggested calling Mike.  I believe there are 2 versions but cant say if he chose one over the other or both.  I know one is like 141 db.

My feeble memory has failed me almost completely on this one, but I swear I've seen an air horn kit somewhere that mounts the air horn hidden alongside the saddlebag.  Maybe someone else can come up with a link or name for this, or tell me I've finally lost my mind completely. :nixweiss:

Be careful when comparing dB ratings.  There is a huge difference between the 130 and up claims made by many horn companies and real industry standard ratings.  It's all about how far from the horn the measurement is taken, and the folks "trumpeting" the big numbers are usually measuring the output within a few inches of the horn.

It is a Kuryakyn air horn set up.

Also, it only supports bikes up to 2008... according to their advertisement.

Don't know how much different the frame changes were in 2009, but I was disappointed to see the disclaimer.

Luckily, I saw it before I ordered them.   8)
