CVO Limited Just Doesn't Fit
« on: February 14, 2014, 06:37:13 PM »

Okay, so I'm 6'6". I've been riding a Heritage Softail for 10 years and, while it's been a wonderful machine that's given me no trouble at all, it's time to move on. My wife doesn't like riding with me because she's not comfortable on the back of the Heritage during long trips so I want to get something that she would like also. I went in to the dealer today to seriously consider buying a CVO Limited off the showroom floor and it just didn't fit. The seat was too far forward, the handlebars hit my knees, and the brake pedal was positioned over my foot. The salesman immediately tried to steer me to something else. Looked at the Harley website and no options are available. This is probably the last motorcycle that I will ever buy and right now I'm pretty bummed because I can't get what I want. Am I beating a dead horse, or are there options available that won't require a total rebuild of the bike?

A Road Glide may fit you better... not a current model this year (2014) and not sure if there will be another in the future (MoCo is  :-X on that subject), however the fairing of that model is further away from the rider and may fit you better. Anything w/a Batwing fairing on it is probably going to fit you the same other than changing out the seat, handlebars, brake pedal, on, and on....

I think if you combine the tall boy seat with kuryakyn floorboard extenders, I think you'll be ok. I'm 6'4" and the floorboard extenders made the seating position just fine for me.

Changing handlebars is a common mod even for short guys, it fixes all kinds of figment issues.

If you are 6'6", how did you make the FLSTC fit?  The rider triangle on the FLSTC is much smaller than the FLHTKSE.

I would look at a Corbin seat first - it will move you back and down.  I also agree that the FLTRU may be better for your size.

I'm a foot shorter and on my 3rd set of handlebars. We all tend to have to make the bikes fit us.

As stated above, the tall boy seat should make all the difference.

I am 6.3 and had a Softail for 16 years and when I went to get my RG in 2012 I felt the exact same way but really wanted a bagger. First thing I did was change the bars to 12 inch Chubby's, new seat and the FB extenders. Even after all that it still did not feel right at first but after a few weeks it started to become more natural until after a couple of months it felt perfect. When I went to go ride my softail after keeping it parked for a coupe of months I couldn't believe it but after all those years it didn't feel right anymore. I ended up putting it up for sale the next day and have loved my RG for the last 17000 miles.

Yep, a new seat that moves you back and a new break pedal should do the trick. Handlebars are an easy adjustment too. I'm 6'4" 34" inseam and the bike fits me pretty well, although I would like to get some bars that come back further. Another option is to check out the Victory Cross Country. It's the best bike I've ever found for a big guy. Loads of room to move around and be comfortable. It will also handle better that the Harley.  Good luck in your search.

Just put on a new seat, bars and extenders.  After about 30 days it will feel totally natural and you'll never go back to a softail.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. Think part of the problem I was having was with the salesman. Made me feel like I was wasting his time. I'll visit with another dealership to see if they are a little more willing to work with me.

I agree with Jswerve!  These are some very expensive bikes and the guy doesn't have time to see you're 100% comfortable?  F him get another salesman and/or dealership!  The '15 RG is right around the corner & will be worth the wait if you have a bike now. :2vrolijk_21:
