Best touring bag for the air wing tour pak rack
« on: March 04, 2014, 09:04:07 PM »

Looking for suggestions for the air wing tour pak rack. The air wing rack is considerably different than the general tour pak rack and to me, requires a purpose built touring bag.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated

I have been using The Harley Tour Pack rack Bag # 93300006

Uses 4 snap buckles , 1 on each corner and only takes seconds to put on and off. I have done around 5000 kms with this and cannot fault it.
has a dedicated rain cover which sewn into the right side pocket.

Thank you, I think that is what I will go with, I really appreciate the posting the part number. It is really curious that Harley offers so few options for the air wing rack. Looks like you could easily strap a bike cover to the top of the bag?

There is a rain cover in the right pocket which pulls over with a drawstring.  I had to use it a couple of times,  no flapping at speed, has draw string to tighten around the rack base.

That's the bag I use too, and best for the rack I think.  I'm on my second one - hard plastic lining on the first all broke up, second one is a tad modified.

Just remember the rain sock that comes with these bags are not really intended for extended periods in the rain while on the road or parked.  I use the one that came with my bag, as it has the reflective piping on it, but I always put the bag into a plastic trash bag first, put the rain sock on, then use a bungee net to secure it to the rack.  Found out the hard way that the factory rain sock is at best, protection from a light drizzle rather than a steady rain.  10 hrs straight in steady rain had everything but the innermost core of my packing soaked.   8)

It may work well if coated with 'CampDry' or some similar weather proofing additive...  but I've still not found anything better than a cheap garbage bag, and it's under the rain sock, so who else knows right? and the garbage bags make great dirty clothes bags until you get to your destination.

8 days on the road to Texas, and aside from the bag on top of the tour pak, you'd never even know I was on a long trip... other than the Alaska license plate.   8)

I use a dry bag - no need to remember a rain fly or garbage bag to protect the contents.  You can find them at your local sporting goods store in the boating section.  They come in multiple sizes/colors, can easily be bungeed on any type of rack and are about a quarter of the price HD wants for their bags.  Naturally they aren't as convenient for small items but I've always used it for items I wasn't going to need until the last stop of the day and kept the small stuff in the tour pak/saddle bags.

This is the one I got for our bike.  Secures nice and snug onto the rack and holds a lot more than it looks like it does.

Thank you, that is the bag I am going with.

Great looking bike and photo! I noticed you are sitting on a seat cushion, is the factory hammock seat not comfortable enough on its own?

Thank you

The stock seat is plenty comfy and I like it a lot.  I even put a Hammock on my Road Glide Ultra well before I got this bike.  I have the Alaska Leather sheepskin because it gets hot here in the summer and it helps me from getting swamp ass real bad.  In the winter it helps keep me warmer and once the heat from the seat gets thru the pad it is very comfy.  I have one on the back seat for the wife as well...gotta keep her comfy so my ride stays fun too....ya know!! ;).   Been using Alaska Leather sheepskin pads for about 15 years.

:jack: Got a remnant piece of sheepskin I've been using since 1994 and it's still a great addition to any seat I've had it on.  Comfortable and keeps you warm/cool depending on the ambient conditions.  However I really appreciate it in the warm, Summer months as it allows ventilation for the buttocks.... ;D

I pretty sure it is an extra large for the front and a large for the back but I'd have to confirm that for you after I get back from the ride.  Breakfast stop now!!!
