I getting ready for the long ride to Sturgis and was just wondering if anybody has come up with a way to stop the bugs from sticking to the bike ? like a pre-treatment, other than a good coat of wax ? what about a temporary cover for the fairing, like a clear bra ? Thanks Rick :confused5:

Not a fan of the bras Rick ... always risk friction rub to the clear. Guess you could wrap it with a fairing condom but a real good coat of wax and some S100 when you get back.. and ... it's all good!!
Last year we ran into swarms of locusts on our ride out to Sturgis. I was picking grasshopper pieces out from every crevice of the bike (and even my teeth :grin2:) for hours :shocked2: :vrolijk27: :zroflmao:
Don't sweat it. Ride .... have fun :2vrolijk_21: Wish I were riding with ya :2vrolijk_21:

Ran into that same swarm last year myself.... nothing like the smell of cooked grasshopper
-

Heck we ran into grasshoppers in Cali. I tried to duck behind the windshield but Karen said sit up and take it like a man. :huepfenlol2:

X2 for Bugslide (http://bugslide.com/). :2vrolijk_21: Local dealer started carrying this recently and I've been pleased with how it works. Really easy to get bugs off, and I'm not sure if something in it is doing what the product title suggests.... they don't seem to be as many bugs so maybe they are "sliding" off. ;D

I take the small bottle and a microfiber cloth with me on trips, works great. It's on my packing list for Sturgis :2vrolijk_21:
-
I originally purchased the 16oz bottle from dealer and after using it purchased the Super Saver Pack. I'm going to keep the small bottle on the bike also. :2vrolijk_21:

You know what I use...and never leave home w/o it.
A can of lemon Pledge.
Each fuel stop...spray it on the fairing and w'shield...fill up the tank, wipe it off. The bugs don't stick! I've been using it for years for those quick touch ups.
-
I carry a pack of Lemon Pledge wipes with me whenever I travel. Great for wiping the bugs off the windshield and other parts of the bike.

The website says it works as a quick detailer also??? Or are you using it mainly to get bugs off?

A bottle of leather conditioner. spray on when you leave, including windshield. Don't touch bike till you get where u get there. Wash it off.

I hit a swarm of locust in 2008, It does suck. thanks for all the great advice guys. ill try to get some bugslide for the trip
-
We did 2 big trips last year and cleaned the bikes every night. Got lazy towards the end and starting going to the car wash. 8) Knocked all the big stuff off and then just hit it with the Lucas detailer and presto/shiny ;D
-
Plexus - take the small can with you. Just completed a two weeker on the SERG. Friend brought a can of Plexus. After a while we were using it for all sorts of things. It even took tar off my floorboard. It cleans and leaves a really smooth finish kind of like Harley Gloss.
-
Plexus! I always carry a small can and a soft cloth. Works great! Clean my winshield everyday so the bugs don't pit it. The rest of the bugs get washed off when I get back home.

X2 :2vrolijk_21: It's the best stuff going, works on all parts plus a great product for windshields :coolblue:
-
Plexus for the windshield and lights, Lucas for everything else - no problems
-
Plexus! Even helps remove Duct Tape, so I was told.
-
Inclosed trailer work real well , but washing the trailer is a b!#&ch
-
Try riding in Alaska if you want the real bug experience, about every 100 miles heading north to Fairbanks you have to stop to clean the bug butts off the windshield, soak it with invisaglass wait and wipe, by the time you get there the only solution is to pressure wash and sun wash and let it soak.
-
What bugs? :orange: :huepfenjump3: :mango: :bananarock:
-
Got my bottle of bugslide yesterday. It sure does get the bugs off easily!!!! Applied and polished again after getting the bike clean and I guess I will see if they come of easier the next time I get some on there.

I don't know if there are less bugs in the air, but I seem to be getting less on the bike.....Guess I will find out after New River Gorge....

It's been too hot for 'em in the middle of the day.....but....at night, not so much. :nervous: spyder

Beats me...really big coincidence--been riding both day and night and not so many. I guess they smelled the Bug Slide and all flew out of my way :huepfenlol2:
-
UPDATE AFTER NEW RIVER GORGE TRIP---bugs still end up all over the fairing, but come off a little easier since the Bugslide application.....They also come off with almost no effort at all if you spray them with Bugslide and let it sit for 30 seconds....

And it gives your bike that lemony fresh sent lol

See a shrink and get help for OCD, or trade for a bike without a fairing. :huepfenlol2:
