Title: Mirror chrome rear agitator bearing seat tolerances
Post by: CVOJIMMYC on December 19, 2013, 06:26:22 PM
So I decided to replace my stock contrast agitators with mirror chrome,
Picked up both from different people on ebay, front no problem, rear was new in the box, correct part # on the box too,  bought new install kit at the dealer, , went to pick it up "the wheel" and the mechanic showed me that there's excessive end play between bearings and sleeve??????? . He thought maybe bad factory machining on the wheel, not allowing the bearings to be pressed in far enough, Dude I got it from said do a crush sleeve, Any opinions or help would be great!!

Anyone know Where I can find factory bearing seat tolerances?

If the seller advertised it as new--excellant condition, you should be able to file a claim. As you know the bearings on a wheel assy. are the most critical part......crush sleeve??WTF?? Would you be able to ride hard with 100% confidence and no knot in the pit of your belly?? I ain't buying bad machince work from the factory, those CNC Lathes just crank them out!!

Bottom line is that they were advertised in "new/excellent condition".  They aren't.

File a claim immediately.

Really sorry to hear this Jim.

Did the mechanic remove the bearings and inspect the bores? Did he use the correct sleeve from the install kit? Was the bearing space measured to be sure it was the correct length? How much end play is there? It is possible that they got the bearings cocked going in and they Galled the bearing bore and pulled some material from the bore which would cause the bearings not to seat. Do you have any pics?

they may have rechromed a set of contrast cut agitators. I have seen some chrome platers overplate  the inner bearing surfaces.

Wow it was a long haul to get this "wheel deal" right, in the end it was a bad wheel from "CHINA" REALLY :sauer055:

Was it a stock wheel or a knock off?
