Title: CVO's on the Dealer showroom
Post by: BigLew on February 09, 2018, 02:29:34 PM
Wow was in Worth HD in KC yesterday and they had 6 on the floor and more in the back. I saw 23 RG's and 2 Bat's and a ultra. They said more in the back. But for what they are asking guess they are holding out for the big money.

I was shocked to see three CVO's in Maine at my local dealer this week. Anni Limited, orange Street Glide and Gunmetal shark...

The dealer I go to in Ontario has all there allotment of '18 Limiteds sold. I couldn't buy one if I begged. They are the largest dealer with the most turnover in Ontario. They are always MSRP though.

I remember when you had to put a deposit down and wait for your CVO to arrive (and usually watch it being uncrated after it arrived)......

I've been in a number of dealerships here in Florida in the past month and they all have a number of CVOs sitting on the floor.  Market is flooded, that's for sure.  :o

Must be a regional thing.  Have only seen one CVO on the floor since I bought mine.  No CVOs at any of my three local dealers, and the one about an hour away has four, but when I was looking last fall they were about $4k over MSRP, which might explain their inventory...

Another factor is Florida (and other warm winter states)  gets more bikes - CVOs included - in winter months.  Riding season = more salable. Not usual for as many of them to sit though.

New 2018 CVO's are not on the floor around me, and if they are its a very short period of time.  Most have a few used CVO's.

I would not say the economy is booming in East TN.

I agree on both comments, Dave.  None (new) at either Knoxville store except for the ones already sold sitting on the showroom for their new owners.  I get calls from the sales managers from both K'ville stores when a new CVO is coming and will be sitting for a day or so....haven't gotten a call in a while.

Not sure what is considered a lot, but on Cycle Trader there are 24 2018 CVOs advertised within 150 miles of my Ohio zipcode, including three at my local dealer that I saw on the floor recently.  I believe that anyone who really wants one will not have to go far to find one.

Not all the adds are real.
Many dealers show adds for all 3 CVO Limiteds at the same time. What's the chance that they really have all 3 at the same time? About zero. Try calling them like I did when I was looking for my Sunglow Fade. I called 5 dealers within 150 miles who advertised the bike and not a single one actually had one sitting on the sales floor. It was a real PIA.

I saw what must have been 6 CVO's on the show room floor of Z&M Harley in Greensburg, PA Monday the 19th.  A mix of new and used, but I think only 1 maybe 2 were new.

No CVO's of any sort on the floor at Pocono Mountain Harley. Keystone had been posting pictures of them coming in however I don't know if they are sold. Tramontin in Hope New Jersey will post a picture occasionally when they receive one. I know they did have a couple of used ones not that long ago.

Sad thing is you will be lucky to get 1/2 in 3 years and nothing for the extras.   If they float your boat and have the money, go for it.  I’m just tired of paying the big difference between new and your trade.  Just an ole fart I guess.  😩

I'm not certain if you can get 1/2 in three years anymore... Just went through this recently - was considering trading my CUSE8 for a '18 CVO Street Glide my dealer had on the floor. I was a bit tormented by it all, but came to the same conclusion - I could have made the deal readily enough but decided I wouldn't. I too am tired of paying the big money difference to make the trade. The only time our CVOs are worth big money is when you are buying one... I'm definitely no spring chicken but I can still go the distance for days on end and plan to this year as soon as the weather breaks in New England...

In addition to everything else, I think what is really hurting the new sales is the looks.  Park many of these older CVOs next to the new ones, and then consider the money to upgrade, and the decision is pretty easy.

Kiro, put your bike in the pic next to a 2018...I know which one I would choose!

I certainly cannot disagree with that bad00serg. Plus, I could have a new engine installed if that ever became necessary - a S&S or a 131 ci R&R from their shop in New Hampshire for less money than I'd be paying after the trade...

Been toying on the idea of a `18 CVO R.G. found a used Gun Gray one at Killer Creek H.D. Roswell, Ga. w/ very low miles.

Emailed dealer. sales guy called me and gave me this long story exaggerating the buzz on the  new R.G. `s and gave me a  over retail price for a used motorcycle guy is nuts or on crack! Think was 55-58 k out the door or something close to that.

I just purchased a gunship street glide and love the color in fact it’s the only color that has looked good on a CVO since the 2010 tequila sunrise. In my opinion of course.....

I cruise by the local dealership at least once a week on the way to other places, and all I can say is that even on a Saturday the place looks dead.  Fifteen or so years ago the parking lot was full on Saturdays, about half full even on week days, and they had limited hours on Sundays.  The special events they held twice a year caused traffic backups, the lot was overflowing, the tents set up in the adjacent field were full, and the store itself was "wiggle room only". The last event they held earlier this year didn't even fill half the parking lot.

Yes, times have changed drastically.  Much of it is self inflicted, some is demographics.  It obviously isn't a lack of money in the economy, high ticket cars and trucks have been selling at a record pace for many years now.  Wildly overpriced homes are selling like hotcakes and we are seeing signs of another real estate bubble developing.  At least on the surface, life is good.  And yet Harley sales are not.  It may be a mystery to some, but not to me.

One of the HD dealers in Louisiana just sent out an email flier advertising "0 down, 0% interest for 60 months, and no payments til the fall - on new and used models."

This is self explanatory regarding the state of the MoCo.

The dealership that Mark referenced above is my home dealership, I go there at least 2 Saturday’s
A month just to bs with my buddies. These days you might see one or two guys in shorts, with their wife and three kids, come in and dream a bit, grab a free sandwich from the dealer and walk out. We watch the new sales “kids” attack, we call ‘em kids because they’re all in their 20’s, they work the first week for $20 an hour, after that it’s straight commission, and they don’t even get a bite, so they’re gone by the next Saturday.
The dealership is starving but, because they treat people like chit when someone does come in for service or parts etc. they have to learn the hard way. This ain’t the ‘90s and nobody has to eat the bullchit to get a bike.

King Glide, I lived in that area for 20 yrs and frequented the Baton Rouge dealer, and later the Hammond store after it was built.  My riding buddy that still lives in the area said after the original owner sold both, and the new ownership consortium ran off all the long-time employees, it was like visiting a car lot.  Every time you stopped in, there was someone new working there.  No camaraderie at all.  Between Slidell, NOLA, Houma, Hammond, and Baton Rouge I believe there's six dealerships.  I don't see all staying open.

Agreed, BR-HD is fighting for it’s life, but won’t open it’s eyes to see the problem. Bikes at 5% over msrp, parts 10% over p&a book, liars, cheats and thieves running the service dept. on top of $125 per hour. Service manager doesn’t know the difference between love and sex. He always says he’s going to show you some love as a valued customer then bends you over and does his business in your azz.

It’s a shame, it was mom and pop, now it’s a used car lot.

I agree with you guys, many of the newer owners see Harley riders as a cash cow, just like a car dealership.

This new internet based business RumbleOn.com is going to impact dealers more. Check out the used bike prices, delivered to your house, with money back guarantee and warranty. They are going to impact dealers.

West Palm has had the same orange cvo rg on the floor for almost 2 months now.  I didn't look at the seriously. They must be adding a bunch on to have it that long. Or people might be waiting for the new year models.  I'd hate to buy that and something really catches my eye 2  months later.     Stuart.

Finally settled with the MOCO on my 17 Streetglide that they will be replacing with either a Streetglide or Roadglide and I told them I would not take a 18 but wait for a 19. Biggest reason why is hoping they figure out the sumping deal but also figure if they didn't and new bike sumps I will just sell it and if does happen by that time the 18 will be a entire model year old.

Ran by 5 dealers today to pick up poker chips, heading home from spending a couple days in the UP (Note: don't go to the Michigan UP while school is out for the summer).  Found 5 new CVO's on the floor, gray limited, orange road glide, orange street glide, gray street glide and one of the numbered anniversary editions of the limited (actually has chrome parts!).

Isn't the dealer show for the 2019's is coming up in just a few days.....  They will be arriving at our local dealers very soon I suspect.....

BTW, no shortage of other bikes on the floors of any of those dealers either.

Smokin HD in Winston-Salem, NC has at least 5 and maybe 6 CVO's on the floor. Most are Street Glides and Road Glides. They still have a Gunship gray in both models. But they do not post prices on the bikes.

I will say they gave us a SMOKIN deal on our left over 2017 CVO limited last September. I cannot remember the original MSRP, I think it was like $41,900. We bought it for $34,660.00 OTD with a service agreement for the 1K, 5K, 10K and 10K services plus a free oil change in between each.

Zips in Gaylord had the orange Streetglide.  I didn't ask about the price, big signs in window for end of year clearance.  Probably doesn't apply to the bike anyone may want, but possible they will deal, anything is possible.

I’m out of town and was passing through Tifton, GA yesterday. So I  decided to stop by the Tifton HD shop. They had a black CVO Street Glide on the floor so I asked what they wanted for it. They proudly said $48k.   So I said why is it still marked up $10k with the new 2019 CVO’s  only  2 weeks out? Their answer “somebody will buy it”.

Obviously they didn’t care but hadn’t considered that I was correct when I mentioned I could get a new 2019 cheaper than that very soon.

[/quote  Be careful there. The Gm and several other employees came from the failed Albany dealership. At least the new Service Manager is ok. He replaced the old one who now is GM. The old GM was a good guy to bad he retired.

There are lots of 2018’s at dealers.  Just go to Cycle trader and do a nationwide advance search ...trust me it’s the most I have seen the week before the new model year.   I have talked to 3 dealers in the area that have agreed to take a few more cvo18’s in order to get better 2019 cvo allocations from MOCO.  What’s  odd is they are all listed at or close  to retail...go figure.

In any event ...It appears the 2018 cvo’s did not  “BLOW OUT THE DOOR”

Smokin HD in Winston-Salem, NC has at least 5 and maybe 6 CVO's on the floor. Most are Street Glides and Road Glides. They still have a Gunship gray in both models. But they do not post prices on the bikes.

I will say they gave us a SMOKIN deal on our left over 2017 CVO limited last September. I cannot remember the original MSRP, I think it was like $41,900. We bought it for $34,660.00 OTD with a service agreement for the 1K, 5K, 10K and 10K services plus a free oil change in between each.

Most of smokin’ cvo bikes are at other dealers, they are a conglomerate of 6 dealers. I too bought mine there ,1k off msrp but had to wait on the gunship from ft.walton store.

I can confirm they have a RG in gunship in stock. Also two other SG in stock. I asked the salesman the selling price of the RG, he told me "MSRP, you know some dealerships jack up the prices over sticker". I replied that yes I agree, even you guys, cause I was here 6 months ago and you told me the price on the orange RG was $5K over sticker. Needless to say he didn't like that, and gave me a look. Hey don't be mad if it's the truth.

Any dealer jacking up prices over MSRP is on an LSD trip back to the 90s.

Lousy CVO Paint in 2018 and way too much black out. That might be the style for millennials but they aren't the guys buying $45K motorcycles.

Stopped at Rawhide H-D on Wednesday. Heading home from Sturgis one of my group needed a water pump and they happen to have it.

Saw 9 CVO’s on the floor. One limited and the rest mixed RG’s and SG’s. Gun ship  grey for both RG and SG. I was told there were 3 more upstairs. I didn’t personally go see them. I didn’t ask for specific numbers but was told all priced over MSRP, don’t know how much more. I have never seen so many CVO’s on a dealer floor before.

On the service end they fixed my buddies bike quick and we were back on the road in no time.

According to their website they still have a new 2014 low rider. They also have 2 new 2016's, a road king and a softail slim as well as 15 new 2017 models!

And 33 2018 bikes still. Funny though the website does not list any 2019 models.

Perhaps the inventory on the website is outdated?

CVO both 18&19 have prices of msrp + the usual tax, etc and a dealer markup of $2500-$3500 around here.

Called all sorts of things like “market adjustment “ or “dealer incentive” or any sort of sales speak.
Sign of the times I guess, I’ll wait another year for my next one.

Are you serious?

There are fewer than 140 2018 CVO Street Glides in the entire United States.  The gunship grey version went from 80 available to roughly 35 available in just 6 weeks and that was while Harley was releasing more units to dealers during that time.  They'll all be gone by October.

Oh and no one is discounting them on cycle trader.  Some dealers are still  adding to msrp.

Your post is 100% advanced ry.
