Zumo cigarette adaptor question
« on: September 12, 2009, 03:46:31 PM »

Is there a problem with what comes with the Zumo 550?  Why is everyone changing the end to a plug from Radio Shack?  I'm thinking about buying the Zumo 550 today and trying to figure out if I can get everything in working order quickly.  I also assume that it comes with an audio wire to hook to the Auxillary input in the radio.  I guess I'm trying to figure out if the things being done by others are completely out of necessity or whether they are things that I can do for appearance purposes the right way over the winter months, and be able to operate the unit out of the box for now.

The motorcycle power cord does not have any ends on it, it just terminates into bare wire. If you want to use your cigarette/cigar lighter for a power source you will need to get a power plug to connect the wires to and then plug in the lighter. I would recommend one of these - 12V Flush Mount Receptacles & Plugs (Plug Only) or Sealink 12V Receptacles, Plugs, and Both (Plug Only) both are marine grade.

The unit does not come w/the stereo patch cord you will need to purchase that separately. Many here use this one - SOUND PROFESSIONALS - GOLD PLATED 3.5MM (1/8 INCH) RIGHT ANGLE STEREO PATCH CABLE (1 meter length)

I use the Powerlet outlet and plug. Looks/works great and the angled plug doesn't come close to the tank.

http://www.powerletproducts.com/products

I think you can get them cheaper from a vendor like
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=PLUG

What's the P/N on that plug you are using?

Was checking this out and didn't see the ability to have a fuse in that plug.... did I miss something or can a fuse fit in this plug?

No fuse in the plug. I changed the fuse for the cigarette liter circuit.

Will it work on a SERG? Pretty close in there.
