2000 road glide audio issue
« on: September 02, 2012, 08:08:20 PM »

Hi I need some help. I just upgraded my speakers on my Harley 2000 screamin eagle road glide with 30k miles.   After riding for 10 minutes as audio adjusts with speed, the audio gets very scrambled or on side will work.  Also noticed my gas gauge bouncing.  I've read a lot about speed sensors being the problem?   Anyone tell me what they think.

If it's not the radio, or the speed sensor, it may be a broken wire. On some of those bikes the wiring broke INSIDE the insulation. No visual indicator, but vibration and movement caused breaks. Here's a simple test you can try. With the bike parked and running, grab the bundle of wires that run along side the right side of the frame between the tank and the fairings. Give it a good tug and shake and listen to see if the problem occurs.

Good luck.

Check your battery connections and your battery.

If it is just the radio I would check the speed sensor, but with the gas gauge bouncing I would suspect a broken wire as Ironhorse suggested
