I'm over the loud pipes...any suggestions?
« on: May 25, 2012, 06:59:36 AM »

I had fatcats on the deluxe I had to wear ear plugs when riding and that was with the "quiet baffles " . I could not take the bike out early in the AM out of respect for the neighbors. Plus I'm really enjoying having tunes and riding without ear plugs.

The 110 on the CVO has plenty of torque and juice but I would love to change out the head pipes to lose the cats. Is there a performance exhaust out there that is close to stock on noise level?

I had the same problem with my 2011 cvo softail.  I had the Rush 1.75 and after awhile I got tired of the noise, even though these are supposed to be pretty quiet,  Ended up getting a set of Screaming Eagle 49 state legal slip-ons.  The bike still sounds like a harley, but quiet enough for my liking.

When I traded my 06 Street Glide for my 04 Pumpkin I put my SE slip on's off the Glide to the  :pumpkin: The SE had some blatty loud slash cuts on it when I test rode it. I told the dealer I would trade if they would swap out my pipes. My SE Pipes have a lot of miles on them but do perk up when I get on it, but are far from too loud.

At first I thought I bought a bumble bee. It just didn't sound like a Harley. So I changed the stock to the V&H Double barrel and after awhile I didn't like the noise, so I also switched to the SE 49 state slip-ons. No regrets at all.

I am running the V&H Headers/x-pipe, and the high ouput slip ons.  They are a nice mellow tone, and not obnoxiously loud.

I still always ride with ear plugs no matter what!  Thhe wind and road noise will do more damage to your ears over a long haul too.   Also if you get in a group, you know someone is going to have non-baffled pipes and deafen you too!

Are you sure your baffles are right for quietest setting?  I have Fatcats with V & H duals on my 2010 SE Ultra and I am very happy with them.  I purchased through a Harley dealer with the bike for warranty and they didn't sound very good.  When I took to the local private shop he said said the baffles were wrong for quieter sound and they didn't sell me an endcap with the set up.  It is deep sound and relatively quiet with no harshness.  I can't remember for sure but I think you take out baffles for quieter?

From what I understood here from a fellow member "Doc 1" that cats are in the mufflers, so I think if you change only the mufflers u wouldn't loose the cats.

The cats are in the mufflers. So, if you change the mufflers you will loose the cats unless you use epa compliant mufflers.

I believe that Fullsac started performing a kit that removed the cats from your stock mufflers and installed his baffles. This can also be accomplished by yourself if it's your kind of thing. Some cutting and welding to the baffles is involved so consider that. Double check with Fullsac first incase I am wrong about the kit.

Seems the best solution might just be the SE slip-ons

i went with the SE slip ons , rode across the nullabor tunes blaring out at 80 mph, helmet on , but just loud enough to know its a harley, and when you twist the throttle at low speed  everyone knows you are there.

I'm running SuperTrapp 2 into 1 and it is not very loud.  It is a low bass rumble so it does not sound so harsh.  It works very well and with the dyno tuning the 110 increased in torque and hp.  I love it because I can keep the volume of the radio down now.

I had the SE slip-on's on my previous bike and I thought they were quite, so this would be your best bet.
