Incredible story, one I had never heard in it's entirety...definitely one that should be taught in school as we pledge allegiance to the flag every morning, as in the days when we grew up!

we here in australia, always see how proudly americans hold their hand on their heart and sing out loud at sporting events, while here in australia we stand for our anthem but half the population is either embaressed  to be patriotic or dont know the words
great story , and explained it totally

If we taught the truth in schools it might offend someone.....and we can't do that :soapbox:

@hogasm
You may be right but on the other hand there aren't too many British pupils in American schools nowadays. At least not here in Wisconsin. ;)
And if they would feel offended by what they have done sometimes ago in ancient history - what should I say as a German immigrant. We piled up a lot of REALLY bad things in history.

It's a stirring and moving visual behind the narrator.  But I hate story telling just for propaganda's sake.

Key was aboard the British ship to negotiate the release of one man.  A civilian that had been taken in a previous battle.  The British heavies couldn't approach to attack due to shallows.  Sixteen ships made the attack.  They did so at their maximum range to stay generally out of range of the American guns.  Because of that they didn't have much in the way of accuracy.

One shell stood a chance of doing real damage to the Fort.  It landed in the magazine.  Didn't detonate.  Total losses in the Fort that night were four dead.  The storyteller in this video didn't even get the name of the Fort right.  The defense of Baltimore was at Fort McHenry and not Fort Henry.  Mary Pickerel's big flag also wasn't raised until the dawn.  The smaller storm flag had been up during the night.  Nearly the whole story told here is bubkus.

There was a particularly grisly incident at a Fort William Henry back in 1757 during the French and Indian War.  Also a battle at a Fort Henry on the Tennessee River led by General Grant during the Civil War.  But this story teller.... well.... he told a good story.
