2011 FLHXSE2 License Plate Options
« on: September 19, 2010, 06:16:23 PM »

Been looking around for something to "clean" up the back end with the plate and light. I've seen a couple of posts where some have used the Kuryakyn plate that you have to drill.

Has anyone tried the Yaffe "Stealth 3 License Frame?"

Looks pretty slick......thinking about doing this one.

http://www.baggernation.com/products-body-plateholders.htm (at the bottom of the page)

Any input?

The stealth 3 was on my list.  However, it's pricey and there's little plate to be seen and that is a big issue here in the UK where a std plate is 9x7 let alone 7x4.  If you can get away with the size it's a looker.

On the other hand I too went with the Kuryakyn and think it's a solid good looking option - three holes - man-up, everyone else has.

As always, your bike, your choice.

Cheers,

Been looking at the Stealth 3 for about a year. They keep putting off the shipping date. As of now they have switched manufacturers and are waiting for the first batch to arrive. If you call they will put you on a wating list.

I too have been looking at this product for over a year, I called just the other day when the prices showed up on the Bagger Nation Web page.  Paul Yaffee picked up the phone himself, as he has done in the past, and told me that the product was finally in but they were not satisfied with the chrome quality and sent the whole batch back.  He is unsure when the restocking date will be.

I am one of those on the wait list for the Stealth III and Paul indicated that it would likely be between Thanksgiving and Christmas because of the change in manufacturers.  With the other options out there, I will wait.

According to Yaffe, it is 100% bolt on. It covers all existing holes...now if they could get the things made and ready to sell, I would have one already.

Just went by his shop Friday and talked to Phil. They switched suppliers and now the date has moved to after the first of the year. It sucks but I saw the proto and was impressed. I'm on the list too.

Oh my this is very sweet......I have read that it just bolts on but what about the wiring for the light. Does it have an adaptor or do you have to cut and use connectors?

From the folks that I have spoken to at Yaffe....it is all plug and play...no cutting or splicing required. I hope they were right.....

Recommend that you check with your state's DMV before spending the money.  By the looks of it, it will cover a good portion of the license plate.  In Virginia that would cover the month/year stickers and would be an illegal license plate holder.  I'm just sayin..... :-\

Looks nice...but I can't speak for anyone else, but I am trying to eliminate that stock light assy on the rear fender. This frame has LED's built in to light the plate so there is no need for the stock one.

I like the spacer between the frame and fender.  What did you use?

If you go to the SERG3 page there is a "how to" thread. The rubber molding you see around the plate frame was something I had left over from an Electra glide. It may have been the molding between the inner and outer fairing or molding from the gas tank console. You may be able to find molding at AutoZone too. May have to use a little heat gun to help curve it around the corners.

Hidden between the fender and the Michigan plate is a piece of rubber cut to suit (I used an old rubber car floor mat).

Also I used a couple "rubber 1/4" fender washers" where the (4) screws hold it all up against the fender.

Turned out good, but I fought it for a few hrs till I was happy with it.

:) To mount the Kury 9182 on CVO Street Glide how many holes need to be drilled?

It's not as clean a look as drilling but it will do until I decide I'm keeping her

I used the plug on the old tag light, and drilled 3 holes.  If you ever want to go back to stock, the old plate will cover the new holes.

All clean installs, but I'm still havin' a hard time choosing...I do like the molding trim idea to eliminate the visible gap between fender and plate. Nice touch!

Was at my local Harley dealer yesterday and the parts guy is checking with Kuryakyn.  I told him to make sure the cover fits the 2011 SESG.  If so, told him to order the cover, have it powder coated and finished in gloss black.  I didn't want chrome on my black fender.

I agree! After I've had her for more time I may go with drilling the holes and putting in the trim piece. Just can't bring myself to drill on her quite yet!  :o

Here's mine on the 2010. Modified a 9182 frame for blind mount and filled smooth ... drilled the fender ... had it painted to match and gold leaf for the lettering.
Came out pretty good - got TONS of comments on it. Pulled it off and replaced it with a regualr 9182 for the impending arrival of the 2011. Still kicking around ideas for what to do on the 2011.

Why are you getting a 2011 model after you have done all this work to your 2010?

Obviously because I'm a little "touched in the head" when it comes to the CVO Street Glide   :huepfenlol2:

No, this is the Kuryakyn lighted frame painted black. The bags are BOSS BAGS. I got mine from Dragonfly fairings. They are really built well. I think they were around $150 or so.

I am curious about this plate as well, can't wait to see your pictures. Also, if you could let us/me know how the installation goes, I am curious if there is a back plate that get mounted first or how it exactly fits.
Anxiously awaiting your reply & pictures...thanks
