SHIELDS
« on: November 05, 2011, 04:51:58 PM »

What kind of windshields are most of you running on the street glides, I put on the Harley version of the klock works shield and where it has any contour to it, it is very distorted and distracting. Thanks Charlie.

I am 5' 8" and I put the HD 7" Smoked Windsplitter on my SG. Big difference. Could'nt be happier. And it looks great. I have received a lot of compliments on it. Even had a guy at the local HD dealer ask me what type it was when we were in the parking lot and went right inside and bought one.

I went with the Klock Werks 6.5" dark smoke. It works very well with little or no distortion.

8" Freedom Shield tinted curve - excellent
4" Windvest black curve - looks the best and at least as effective as stock

You mention distortion on the Klockworks......are you looking through the windshield or over the top?

I use the 8" dark tint Windvest.  My wife uses the 6" dark tint Windvest.

You take better pictures than your wife, or else she is better looking than you.

You should ideally look over the top of a shield rather than through it, that way there's no distortion.
Long Ride Shields for me.

I am 5'10 and use a 8 inch Freedom shield, tinted. I can see over it just fine and it works really well for me.

Sir, I respectfully disagree; one can very easily ride looking through a windshield.  It was the first modification made to my bike.  It may not look as 'cool', but it darn sure catches bugs.  Riding through the farm land of the San Joaquin and Salinas valleys, it has been a blessing seeing those splats on the windshield, rather than my face.   :2vrolijk_21:

I've been using F-4 Tall Windshields for around five years and like them because there is "zero" distortion looking through their product.  That cannot be said for Tulsa or other 'Lexan' based products.

It's good to see there are other 'polycarbonate' products on the market now, so the Long Ride product is very attractive to me.  That material is the best for this purpose and the reason for the lower distortion rates.  I just may have to pick one up for riding around town.  ;)
