You should ideally look over the top of a shield rather than through it, that way there's no distortion.

Sir, I respectfully disagree; one can very easily ride looking through a windshield. It was the first modification made to my bike. It may not look as 'cool', but it darn sure catches bugs. Riding through the farm land of the San Joaquin and Salinas valleys, it has been a blessing seeing those splats on the windshield, rather than my face.
I've been using F-4 Tall Windshields for around five years and like them because there is "zero" distortion looking through their product. That cannot be said for Tulsa or other 'Lexan' based products.
It's good to see there are other 'polycarbonate' products on the market now, so the Long Ride product is very attractive to me. That material is the best for this purpose and the reason for the lower distortion rates. I just may have to pick one up for riding around town.
