Dealer can't wire my monkey bars!!! Really!!!
« on: April 04, 2012, 05:28:50 PM »

I just received my 10" Monkey Bagger bars and took my ride to dealer got a call today that they can't get wiring through bars.   Their excuse is that there are to many burs inside of bars, wiring is getting caught on.
Anyone else have this much trouble or just sorry service?        :nixweiss:  got a trip planned next week if left up to them guess I will have stock bars until I have time to do it myself.. :soapbox:

I think it's a lack of effort.  Everybody else on here hasn't had this problem.

Although it took me three hours just for the throttle side (clutch side took maybe half hour) to get the wires through when I did it myself in the garage at home, I was able to do it.

Sounds like SORRY service to me.  My guess is they quoted you a price not an hourly rate for however long it takes and realized it is quite a bit more than they bargained for so they just said they can't do it.

I have done a few sets of the Monkey bagger bars. It is a pain to get the wiring through the bars, but I have not had a set yet that I could not get it through. You have to use a push pull method with some lube. Can not make your wire bundle too big and pull all the wires at once. Sometimes the bars are a little rough inside. I have heard some other people say they could not do it. Maybe I have only seen the good sets.
Give me a holler if you need some help.

They may be concerned about liability if the roughness or burrs cuts through the insulation and shorts a wire to ground.

Maybe your dealer needs to hire a monkey to thread the wires throught those Monkey Bars. ;)

Uhhh, seriously, if there are sharp burrs in those bars, I think I'd be asking the company that makes them for a replacement set that has been deburred.  Either that or wrap the wires in some sort of extra tough sheath to protect them.  Why risk intermittent or total electrical failures?

Inspect the bars. It should be pretty easy to take a fish with a cotton ball attached to confirm burs. If anything gets snagged, I'd get them replaced and not risk it. Changing these bars with the internal is a time consuming job, and you'll kick yourself if you shart running into shorting problems later.

Unfortunately burred bars are rather common with certain vendors.

A perfect reason to buy the materials from the dealer. Let them worry about it if they don't fish thru. They woudl have to get the replacement set.
