Mine won't do chit when moving either, Brian...all the selections are grayed out.

Are you guys sure you don't have a menu somewhere to take them out of safe mode?  I don't know what kind of vehicles you are driving, but I'll be checking on that before I buy a new vehicle now.  There's a pretty good price differential to have the built-in GPS and I wouldn't be real happy if I had to stop every time I wanted to change something on a route, like looking for a gas station.

I rode one and I could make change as I was driving. Nothing seemed different than my 660.

Pic I saw was just a USB port in there.  In to that you could plug an adapter for anything.
Saw one at bike night the other night. You're correct. All I saw was a usb plug.

There is.  It's called "safe mode," or something to that effect.  But it is switchable in the settings.  Automotive in-dash GPS systems do not have this capability, however, and are always in "safe mode."  It will be interesting to see if the new Harley unit has it or not.

The one in my wifes 08 FJ cruiser we recently sold would not let you search or such when moving.  My 12 Range Rover will.

Will it let you search for a city / restaurant / gas station while moving?

I can search anything I want in my Range Rover when moving, gas, food, city, change route, or routing preference.  Much more useful than the one that was in our FJ.

Sure hope you can do the same in Harleys new system

Most Asian manufactors lock you out when driving where most European do not. They just give you a warning at start up

The more I stared at the electronics, the more I liked them. Absolute control over all audio and communications. I generally would not answer a phone while riding, but it would solve the problems I have when I try to text while riding..... ;D

At least for FoMoCo products there is "lockpick". Opens up all the features.

http://www.coastaletech.com/synclockpick.htm

On both our vehicles we can't not enter street address while moving, as well as a few others. But, I can access any saved way points.

I can in my truck enter a street address via the voice activation feature.

Will the new "Limited" smart phone slot accept Android as well as Apple smartphones? It looks like Apple only; not sure. They sell more Android phones than Apple, not sure why Harley went that way, if they did.

Scott

That slot is pretty deep, I'm going to guess at least 7" long

At least and yes, an Android phone will fit (saleman put his Samsung Galaxy 4 in it) as well as any apple product (excluding the tablets, of course).  The plug looks like a USB so my guess is there is a pigtail that plugs into that and then into whatever phone brand you have.  I would'a plugged my iPhone in but no pigtail available for demo....

Couple of questions. It seems as though much of the info getting splashed around the site is contradictory. For example: some say the sound system is the same on the CVO Limited and the Ultra Limited but on the comparison chart posted in another thread it shows 25 watts per channel on the Ultra Limited and the Ultra vs. 75 watts on the CVO Limited. It also shows the AMP as standard on the CVO Limited but optional on the other two. Then I read the AMP was still under the TP somewhere here and then it is not.

Personally looked at one in Daytona yesterday (Ultra Limited, Black). There was no AMP under the TP. Did it even have one? Don't know. Heard so much "talk" from 4 different sales people demoing the bike to others that I figured asking anything about the bike wasn't going to gain me any useful information. One sales person even agreed to a this statement from a potential buyer: "So the water cooled heads eliminates the heat on the riders?" ...."yep!" ..."Guaranteed?" ...."yep!"... lol.

Anyway, whats the skinny? AMP under the TP yes or no? 75 vs 25 watts per channel?

A side note: even if the AMP is not located under the TP, I can't see removing it as the turn signals are located in the TP and not on the fender anymore. I can't understand why the wouldn't add that to the fender/saddlebag gap area instead of an open slot.

I too am wondering why pay the extra 10-13k for a CVO....

Mystery solved I believe...

I just was on the H-D website doing a comparison of the Ultra Limited and CVO Limited and this is what it said:

Ultra Limited... Watts Per Channel - 25 Watts, External Amp - P/A Upgrade, Speakers - 5.25", P/A 6.5 Upgrade

CVO Limited... Watts Per Channel - 75 Watts, External Amp - Standard, Speakers - 6.5"

Should solve some of the issues recently mentioned on this and a couple other threads..... :2vrolijk_21:

And a big AMEN to the comments on the MoCo site hard to navigate....and I thought the old site was tough.  The P&A area is a pain in the butt  :wall:

My experience regarding GPS and Smartphones...

My 2009 Honda Fit and 2013 Ford Escape both have USB input, and both will accept input from any USB device - including thumb drives.  Both radios seem to do a better job with my iPhone as far as integration and control of the devices, but other devices work nonetheless.

My Ford has the SYNC system installed (made by Microsoft, by the way), and the Navigation system works well in my experience.  At first, I would transfer my Zumo back & forth because of familiarity, but Sync works well enough for most things.  It does block most keyboard input while moving, but it does allow you to select from POI lists, recently found items, favorites, etc.  You have to be stopped to enter a search item.  A bit of a PIA, definitely safer, but I wish it would give me an option.  I won't pay $289 for the "LockPick" mentioned by Porthole though.  If I need to type that badly, I'll just carry the Zumo with me or use the Garmen app on my iPhone.

That makes more sense...since Androids are selling like hotcakes now.

The thing most of the manufacturers do now is "package" the GPS functions in with the upgraded radio or "technology" package.  Mine will do a whole bunch of things, like voice commands for this and that, but the NAV functions are just not quite up to par.  It will choose different routing than my Garmin, does not show some of the smaller roads/streets, etc.  It is a CD based system though.
