Dead crows hit by vehicles, not virus
« on: April 22, 2020, 02:57:21 AM »

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) found over 200 dead crows on Highway 281 this past week, and there was concern that they may have died from the Coronavirus.

A veterinary epidemiologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was NOT Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The cause of death was actually from vehicular impacts. However, during analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was found that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with motorcycles, while only 2% were killed by cars.

TxDOT then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of motorcycle kills versus car kills.

The Ornithological Behaviorist quickly concluded that when crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow to warn of danger.

They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "bike"!

You might say it was CORVID-19   :D

All joking aside I hit a bird at interstate highway speed years ago.  Noise of the bike must have spooked it from its resting position on the road side.

Wasn't pretty.

Not fun.

I hit a wild turkey on a country road leading a group of bikes years ago. Let a group of turkeys pass in the road in front of me, did not see the last one in the ditch.  Was going about 50 mph when it flew up & into me.  Hit my left shoulder, I would have ducked but my wife was sitting behind me.  Bikes behind me said it looked like a pillowcase exploded.  The Road King & I were covered in ... turkey.

Pulled over a few miles later at a gas station, 1 of the riders asked me why I didn't pick it up & take it home to clean & eat.  I looked at him, looked at me, and looked at the bike & just shook my head.  Heck of a bruise on my left shoulder. Hurt like the devil. Shoulder turned all shades of green & blue & finally brown before it healed.
