'05 Handlebar Change Help
« on: March 11, 2009, 02:47:28 PM »

Looking for some info.  Getting ready to change the handlebars on my Cherry.  Going with the Khrome Werks +2 Sweepers.  I've read where the only cable change is the upper brake line when using Chubby 575's.  The sweepers are very similar so I'm pretty sure I will have to follow the same guidelines.  My question:  is there anything to know about routing (or re-routing) the stock throttle and clutch cables when changing bars.  I've read where some have had to (re-route) and some have not.  Any help / advice is greatly appreciated!!
Am also changing the top clamps to a single clamp and changing the riser bushings while I'm in there.  Also the 45252-04 for the upper brake line comes up "obsolete".  Any idea what the new number needed is?

Chris,

Do yourself a favor and just order the two inch longer throttle cables. That "may or may not be" is BS. Just do it while you have it apart and route it the same way.

This is the part # for the brake line 45252-04. Got mine from Zanotti. At the time it was 108.00

Clutch was OK?  Did you have to reroute (and how)?  Tried that P/N and it comes up obsolete.  Gonna have to try my local dealer to see what will work.

Thanks,

From Zanotti HD
https://www.zanottimotor.com/shopping/pLookUp.php

Both are 20% dealers, both list the hose, $108 and $110

Got mine at Zanotti

Don't remember about the clutch, although I do recall disconnecting the clutch handle end and having to bleed it (change the gaskets).
But that could have been on another bike  :nixweiss:

Looked at the cable (kit) in an old catalog.  Looks like it comes with the upper and lower lines as well as the "connector".  I would think that just the upper needs to be replaced??

Thanks for your help.

The hose listed above is the replacement you need.

Your current hose is one piece.

Like Porthole said take a few dollars and replace the throttle and idle cable.

Don;t have to disconnect the clutch, just loosen up the hose on the bars and rotate it a little which will require bleeding.

Clamp is a Harley item for the 08 and o9 bikes. It is worth the money

FYI, both Chicago HD and Zanotti's no longer have these (+2 brake line kit).  I did manage to find one nearby but I have to pay the $137 "asking" price.  My local dealer has a set of +2 throttle cables that he is holding for me if I need them.  Bars should be in early next week so I hope to have a better "ride" soon.

Got 'em done!  Much better than stock - up a bit higher and back about 2".  Clutch line was OK.  Took the advice to change the throttle and idle cables - stock ones fit but a bit tight, the +2 are perfect.  Thanks for everyone's help.

I think I have all my parts together and plan on doing this next weekend.
When I was talking to the parts guy at the dealer he mentioned the key may be a problem on the reassembly.
He thought there was a special tool to align everything and without it I will not get the bike running again?!?!?!

Can anyone who has removed the Fairing cap and reinstalled provide some input here?

Thanks!!!!

Steve;
Remove the key assm in the acc position and pull the maxi fuse. DO NOT try to reinstall or turn the key without all of the switch parts and lock nut reinstalled.

Something else, do not overtighten the nut on the ignition switch.  It (the switch) will break.  Don't ask me how I know this..........
