Chirping Mufflers
« on: May 31, 2006, 10:22:27 PM »

I have this annoying chirping coming from the rear muffler hangers.  It is the rubber issolators on the hangers making the noise.  I have tryed a bunch of different solutions.  They all last about a month and then the chirping returns.

Anyone got a good fix for this?  Thanks!

You could try 2 things...
1) Buy new rubber mounts and install them
2) Put some liquid soap (dove, etc.) where the metal bar slides through them (not too much!)

Hope this helps!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Jay,

Had the same issue shortly after buying the SEEG, dug around in my collection of lubes and found some Sil-Glyde silicone paste (great for weatherstrips on cars), applied a light coating inside and out on the rubber, and had no more issue for the rest of the year.  I'll probably need to reapply this year, since it doesn't last forever and the mounts do pick up a lot of brake and road dust.  I think you can find this at NAPA auto parts stores.

Good old fashion parafin should do the trick. You can buy it at the grocery store in the home canning section right next to the Mason jars.  ;)
