Open primary pro's and cons
« on: September 28, 2010, 07:57:45 PM »

I have a EVO in my rat bike, and it has a leaking primary cover. Not being one to pass up an opportunity i wanted to hear from those who have bikes with open primarys. It looks good and I don't have to worry about leaks, now fill me in on the down side. Its only a bar hopper/tough guy bike so I don't need to worry about long hauls. I would go with the 3" belt if I did it. Thanks

Had one on my chopper a number of years ago.

PROs:
-No problems with it, easy install and virtually no maintenance
-Didn't have to worry about changing fluids(No LEAKS)
-Looked very cool

CONs:
-Very noisey
-Had to wear a band around my jeans/pant leg even with a protective cover over the belt.

Hope that helps,

..............and if it is ridden, like you would any bike, the exposed aluminum pulleys will wear from road dirt/elements, as will the belt also, and will need replacement. :)

Thanks guys, I have been wanting to do this for a while, and I usually jump first and ask questions later, like when I thought a snapping turtle would make a good pet, or put nitrous on my diesel pick up truck (wrong jets 300 shot) it went real good...once!

I had a bro get sideswiped by a cage. Pushed his foot into the open belt,
We now call him peg leg... It looks cool, but not worth the chance you take on getting hurt, or like my bro, loose a foot.
keep it closed..
