Question on prices for the Zumo 660 and warranty
« on: April 12, 2010, 09:01:08 AM »

I have been searching and searching for the best price for the Garmin Zumo 660. I have found that the best prices + Shipping (if they don't offer free S&H) are all about the same price. $640.00 ish.  I am also considering a warranty. Has anyone ever bought an extended warranty like the Amazon Square Trade ($54.99 for two years)?

Any input or thought would be great.

Thanks guys,

Warranty would be a waste of IMHO..

Comes with a year and Garmins will replace any Garmin (worst case) out of warranty for $150.00.

Call Jenni at Tri-Counties HD and you can get the HD Zumo 660 for under $600 + shipping, plus HD gives a two-year warranty on the unit instead of the Garmin standard one-year.  It's still a Garmin, but comes preloaded with the  HD Dealer listings.

I see that UNIVERSAL MANIA is $611.80 for the unit and $10.58 for S&H for a total of $622.38

Anyone ever buy from them?

BTW AMAZON.com is $639.00 with free S&H

I hear you but I just have not made up my mind about the H-D unit vs. The origional Garmin Zumo 660. Also I might be wrong but doesn't the H-D version lack somethings that the Garmin unit comes with?

I don;t think so, the 660 is the 660, the HD unit has all the HD dealers preloaded, kinda handy if you collect things like stickers as I do. But all the other features from reading both from Gamin.com and the HD site, they are identical. I love my 660 after coming off a 550, the newer features are really handy and I'm still learning more of what it can do. I like the bluetooth on it, not for making or receiving calls, but if I am out on a trip and my wife calls, it will pop up on the screen so I know to stop soon and call her back.

The hd version doesn't come with to motorcycle mount,  but most don't use it anyway. Order from Jenni, get thee 2 yr warrenty, and find a mount you like for your bike.

The HD Zumo 660 and the generic Garmin 660 are identical units.  the only difference is the HD zumo is black and has Harley Davidson in orange lettering along the bottom front, + has the dealer POIs pre-loaded, and has a two year warranty (which is honored by Garmin, by the way).  The only thing it doesn't come with that the Garmin 660 has is the bike mount.  As stated by another member, most don't use that mount anyway.  I bought the mount I wanted, so if I had bought the garmin 660, I wouldn't have used the included mount either.   Other than all of that a 660 is a 660 whether it says Garmin on the front or Harley Davidson...Garmin makes them both.  Same with the 550

I too have a mount but am not sure if it is what I want. I see the power cables on the H-D unit and they seem attached to the mount. Is this correct or it it an option to have the mount powered up? I will need a cradle to mount the unit to the generic bike mount and I am not sure I want it wired yet or not.

No, the cradle comes with the unit, you just pop the cradle onto any mount you choose. I am going with the new 2010 Limited Edition CVO Ultra mount that is through the inner fairing pad. But, I do have it mounted with a Techmount right now, not a bad price for it here;

Wow that is a good price. I have the gas lid mount right now but I am wondering if the 660 mount is the same as the 550 mount where the wires plug into the mount if you want to hard wire it or leave the wires off to use JUST the mount?

I am fairly certain that you can unscrew the cradle and take the wire harness off the cradle. I left it on as I use the MP3 player and plug that into the HD radio so I can listen to my tunes and hear any direction the GPS has to give me
