Gauges
« on: August 19, 2006, 12:41:06 PM »

Has anyone heard anything about gauges for the REVO? At some point I'd like to know what the motor is up to while running. Oil pressure, oil temp, water temp. Every time the fans come on I'm wondering if the motor is running hot or if something isn't right. Does anybody have any info as to what the operating temps should be or oil pressure.

It would be interesting to come up with a guauge cluster with the same spun faced gauges as the other SE's.

Thanks,
Ed

Heh, MoCo you hear that? There are some OCD/SEO people that would pay for gauges for there V-Rods if you put them in the P&A catalog. This could be another revenue source for you....

Ed, now just wait until the supplement comes out to the P&A catalog and you will have gauges. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] All we have to do is mention "revenue and OCD/SEO" in the same sentence and the MoCo will be all over it. ;D

I did not realize REVO made gauges for bikes...

As for Oil Temp. I have been informed to expect a replacement gauge much like the Touring model on the dipstick.

Ed/Jock....They list the LCD oil temp dipstick in the new P&A catalog...no level, just temp.  You'd have to lean over and push the button if you wanted to check it on the bike....not moving, preferrably.

Ed, I would like to know these things as well...I don't see it happening anytime soon.  My fan seems to only come on when I'm sitting at a redlight...it'll be nice this winter  ;)

I was able to find the info on the operating temps and pressure.

Oil Pressure @3000rpm 43-94 PSI
Normal Operating Temp 158F 70C

Fans on @217F
Fans off @208F

Cooling system pressure 15 PSI

Terry,

My fans were working in traffic when the temps were around 95 other wise it's mostly when I'm coming in off the road into the driveway, gas station, etc. I'm curious to see how the temp shoots up when moving slower without air flow. Stop and go riding etc. The other night when the temps were in the low 40's they never came on. I did check out the LCD dip stick and I like the look of it but doesn't seem as function as I'd like.

I'm going to do a little research on the sending units for the water temp and oil pressure and see if they can be changed out to something more functional. Just an idea right now. I'm open to any thoughts.

Ed

Ed...there are several companies out there who make really nice guage housings for one off bikes, which mount to handlebars, or a bracket which attaches to the engine.  But, most of them are for Evo or Twins.  The housings are standard guage sizes, and many of them look like the tack housing we have on our bikes.  The problem is where to put the thing and make it look right.  I don't like the idiot lights any more than you do.

Like you said, my fan only seems to come on when I'm sitting at a redlight or when pulling up in the drive or to get gas...something like that.  On the road, I never hear it come on at all.  In the cooler weather months, it will be interesting to see if it comes on at all, even when stopped.

Ed...this is a good one for the water temp...mounts where your horn housing is...it isn't spun aluminum though.  Pretty neat install though....

Terry that does look pretty good. I also got a few good ideas from the other info you passed along. I have to research the spun face gauges too and find out what I need for sending units for those. I want to keep the factory water and oil sensors in place just add onto the system to supply the new gauges. There is a oil pressure port on the left side of the motor that can be used but I haven't found a good spot for the water temp. Haven't had to much time for research. Getting ready for vacation next week and as usual things seem to fall apart the week before.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed, if the Revolution doesn't give you a fitting for a water temp sender anyplace than contact that company offering the horn cover based unit.  Perhaps they'll sell that water neck with the sender hole shown in one of their pictures as a part by itself.

Spun aluminum on the oil pressure isn't a problem...comes in the Ultra, SEEG, etc.  Water pressure?  That one may be hard to find in a spun aluminum...could always go with the horn mounted water, and figure a way to do the OP elsewhere.

VACATION....can't have none of that chit, now....
