Nothing earth shattering about that. Just another bike in line with the Low, Limited, and Ultra, or whatever line it's from. Assembled the same way, on the same line, by the same people. Not like the old days, when CVO meant something. Kinda sad.

It is pretty early in the season.  In my "neck of the woods" no one is riding yet due to WINTER.

My dealer (Yankee Harley in CT), can't keep them in stock. As soon as one hits the floor, they're sold in a couple of days.

Stopped into Desert Wind HD, in Mesa AZ today and much to my surprise they had (6) CVO's on the floor!
Now we all know you can pretty much ride all year here,  well maybe not August September,  but lets say
you can buy and ride most anytime. They had the following, if anyone has an interest:

(3) CVO Street Glides, (1) Black Forest, (2) Charred Steel/Silver.
(1) CVO Road Glide, Lighting Silver/ Charred Steel.
(2) CVO Ultra's, (1) Magnetic Grey Fade, (1) Auburn Sunglow.

I DID NOT ASK about pricing!

I can go to the seven closest dealers to me and not see 12 new CVO's combined.

I cannot imagine a dealer having that many???????

Blame the economy, blame competition, blame china, blame Trump whom ever this is on Harley and their management. Like others have said it used to be something special to ride a CVO but not anymore.  Lots of stock 107's and 114's look almost like one to the un trained eye.  Having purchased a couple CVO harley's a guy kinda feels like a sucker dumping a bunch a money in one of these so called special Custom Vehicle Operation motorcycles.   Harley management and marketing killed it off.  If I buy another Harley it won't be another CVO I'll just buy a stock colored touring bike and call it good.  They sure took the fun out of it.....

I’ve just purchased my first CVO after having non-CVOs previously and I couldn’t disagree with you more. The fit and finish on a CVO is very expensive to replicate with a lesser model and the technology that’s standard on a CVO (WHIM, SiriusXM, Locking bags, audio, etc) costs a pretty penny, as well.

The dirty little secret is that you spend 45k on a CVO w/ accessories and you get 33k trade value the next year. You spend 45k trying to replicate the CVO (which is easy to do) and you get 24k trade value - or less - the next year.

For the guy who’ll spend money to get what he wants and likes the aesthetics, technology, and exclusivity, the CVO is far and away the better investment. For the guy who is happy to have a H-D and isn’t interested in the bells and whistles, the other models are the way to go.

Before you throw your CVO out with the trash, you should go spend a day on a non CVO version. I suspect you’ll realize a thing or three.

I have had three other non CVO harleys none of which were an investment plus two CVO's both of which were not an investment. Come to think of it maybe they were a better investment than my stock picks.....

CVO'S Are not what they were in the past for many reasons !!! I owned many ( 5 ) CVO'S since 2005 and the pricing has gotten out of hand. They do come with all the goodies !!! but ride the same as non CVO'S.

I could not have been happier with my ‘09 CVO Ultra. Added mods to the bike to make it right for me, corrected the issues, maintained it meticulously and enjoyed 10 years and 37K miles of trouble free, comfortable long distance road trips. Planned on keeping “Ruby” for a long time to come. But at this years NYC Motorcycle Show in January, a Mako Shark fade Road Glide CVO caught my eye. Couldn’t get that bike off my mind. So a few weeks ago, just to pass some time, visited a few New York / Long Island area HD dealers. Prices ranged from $3000 over list, to the deal I eventuality went for, which was well below MSRP, no freight, no dealer prep, and best of all, a trade-in number that I would have a had a real difficult time getting if sold privately (for the ‘09 CVO Ultra). As the dealer said, “would not have been interested in the ‘09 if it was not a CVO”.
May I add that this CVO RG is an awesome bike right out of the dealer, bone stock. Oh I’m sure there will be some issues. We know that as Harley owners. But as always, we will discover them, correct them, tweak the bike to our liking and enjoy the hell out of the ride. Been doing exactly that for a whole bunch of years, and God willing still got some great rides and brotherhood ahead.
Ride safe out there everyone,
Tom P.

Got a little chatty in that last post, forgot the point of the thread. Did not see a whole lot of CVOs around the area. The dealer I bought from had 7 on the floor. Was willing to wheel and deal. By the time my bro-in-law and I got done, he had 2 fewer. I got a RG, he bought a SG. We both traded in CVOs and got good $$$ for them. And the extended warranty at a big discount.
We both have bought from this dealer in the past. We did the CVO “twofer” ;)
Anyone in the market for a CVO, be sure to work out a good deal. HD pushing the MSRP over $40K has scared a lot of buyers away. IMHO!

For the most recent CVO purchasers/owners, in the beginning a CVO was picked off the line and hand built by 1 man. If he went on vacation, that bike sat there until he returned. There was much more attention to detail and craftsmanship back then. As to the value, yes, you are correct, to convert a non CVO model into a CvO model is not less expensive. And perhaps that is what Harley counts on to lure in buyers. My experience has been that todays CVO's serve as a concept bike for the models three years down the road. My 2017 FLHXSE is pretty much the same bike as a 2019 Streetglide Special. If you bought a McLaren F1 today for 1.5 million bucks, and they take all that tech and powertrain and design and put it into a car than can be purchased new for $75k, would your F1 still feel as "special"?

Have never seen a one man show building a CVO but I know they did a 2 man team. It was never on the assembly line, so it never got pulled off. Everything specific for the bike being built was delivered to the Bomb Factory located behind the main assembly plant. There were 4 crews of 2 I believe and it didn't take long to custom build a CVO. The frame sat on a frame stand that had wheels on it along with the stools the assemblers sat on. They pushed it to their next station and grabbed the parts that were to go on the bike next. Now that was when a CVO was a CVO!!!!!

Don't forget the original CVOs, hand-built by one team, also came completely chromed out, with color matched frames (not black), and more exotically detailed paint.  The changes that evolved in later years were all cost savings moves, even though the MSRP continued to rise.  CVOs moved to the assembly line, frames were no longer color matched, paint schemes got less exotic, chrome disappeared - replaced by lower cost powder coating.

I miss my '03 Anniversary CVO Road King.

Glad I bought my new one when I did, my same dealer has the same bike(different color) with a 10K “dealer markup” on the tag. Puts it about 52K plus fees.
I figure it they can sell them for whatever they ask, go for it.
If that ever happens to me I’ll just get 2 BMWs and save $1000 to boot!

I call it "get lucky motors" they hope to get lucky with uninformed buyers. Sadly when that happens the buyer finds out and has a bad taste for Harley when it depreciates $20,000 in two years. Maybe more!

Still riding my 00 SERG and it always reminds me of how special the early CVO's were. The original concept was to showcase their line of aftermarket SE parts and when bundled on a limited production bike represented a quit a bargain for the day. I hope they repeat the graphics again on a new CVO, but with a drivetrain that respects the heritage.

Funny, but one of the local dealers will sell me a 2020 CVO SG for $37500.  And I think that is a big chunk of change for what the bike is. Days of ADM are long gone when it comes to HD products in my opinion.

The comparison is quite apparent to me......my Bud's '12 SG Special has 80,000 km with only minor issues......my '12 FLHXSE3 has has it's share of minor issues, but, also has had an engine rebuild at under 60,000km due to the top end .

I have a 12 SE3 as well and interested to know what problems you had with the top end.

I had a 12 SE CVO Street Glide 110.

Pretty much no different with problems that any other TwinCam I've owned.

Compensator.
Valve Train Noise was really bad after I put in the Andrews 57 Cam.
I was paranoid about the dual wound valve springs so I had a (reputable?) shop replace them with AV&V beehives and do a valve job.  Beehive broke and then I needed a whole top end. I should have either left it alone or had a different (reputable?) shop do the work.

I suggest you do a stage two on your CVO and get it tuned, and just ride it.  Fix what breaks and ride it some more.  Wish I still had mine.

I have the cats removed from the headers with V&H slipons and dyno tuned.
As a precaution I replaced the stock C lifters with S&S premium lifters and SE adjustable pushrods.
Still have the 2600-2800rpm top end rattle but otherwise engine runs quiet outside of these rev ranges.

Mine is almost the same as yours. S&S premiums, S&S adjustable pushrods, but also swapped the inner cam bearings for Torrington/Timken. Running Rinehart true duals, no cats and Dynojet power commander dyno tuned. Put about 12K since.   :2vrolijk_21:

I have owned three CVO's with last one being a 2015 SERG. The past few years the CVO RG's have been de-featured but the price goes up. No wonder they tend to sit on showroom floors. HD as a company is struggling and I suspect cost cutting measures will continue in an effort to keep the company profitable. If they really had care for what owners think, it would be a simple exercise to contact previous CVO owners or for that matter HD owners that have not purchased a new bike in recent years and simply ask them what would convince then to buy a new bike.

I agree the MOCO is struggling . Around me about all the dealers are giving you a free 131 kit if buy a new touring bike. So the MOCO must be backing that.

I was offered same deal if I bought a new touring bike and the kit, they install 131 pkg for free.

This was in mid-west Ohio last month.   :nixweiss:At the time I didn’t know HD offered 131 Kit....guess I’m too busy with my CVO

The only difference I see between a Road Glide Special and a CVO Road Glide is 3 cubic inches and 15K
