Title: What works for wheels and tires
Post by: SPIDERMAN on December 16, 2006, 12:49:35 AM
I'd like to buy some 18" diameter wheels but don't know what width rims to go with. What  do I need to go with a 160 tire on the rear and a 120 on the front ? What will fit in my 07 Road Glide without modifying anything ? Also, what tires should I run on the 18's. I've always liked Dunlops on my stock wheels, but obviously this is a different thing. What is the most aggresive tire out there in 18" x 160 and 18" x 130. Does Metzler offer the Laser line in these sizes ?  Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is uncharted territory for me fitting custom wheels on stock H-D's I've done this with ground up customs, but it's been several years and everything's changed.

Thanks

Brian, separate from the size issues you're considering, do you have a particular look or style you're thinking about?  Or not that far along in the process yet?  Just wondering what LD might look like when you're done.

Big B,

18x4.25 for 160 rear

18x3.5 for 120 front

that is what I ordered for mine

Big B,
Those wheels are hot!!!! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] They definitely will look good on LD. You keep this up and before long LD is going to be just as well "dressed" as Elvis. ;)

Well it may be awhile before I buy them Gary. Looks like $2,500 with tires on em if I go with the sizes Hogasm suggested. With Christmas, wifey out of work. Oldest in Med School , youngest in Ye Olde Countrie everyone's got their hand out. Been thinking of posting a bunch of stuff for sale to pay for the wheels. The 07 heads I just took off LD should be worth a few bucks, the 03 SERK wheels that are on LD at the moment, a ton of stock 03 SERK stuff I replaced with the Skull series stuff. Who knows. Maybe Beags can post some stuff on E-Bay for me.

Big B,

Tires fit fine. Had to remove a little of the belt guard with a drimmel to get clearance with the belt.

Front tire fits without any mods of the stock fender.

Grovers front fender is from www.fatbaggers.com.  both front fender and bracket cost about $375 plus paint.

Can't really say the bike rides any better or not. Only ridden it around the block then took everything back off so I can send the tins off to have them repainted.

Big B I went with HogPro for my wheels and tires. I went with 18X3.5 front and rear with ME 880's 140's. I like the flame look Bro it will look good on the Los Dragon! Unlike you I will leave the selection until I mount them. Good luck. Later,Q

Q,

I called Hogpro today pretending to be you and told them I was over thinking my choices and wanted know if they could recommend something else that may work out better for my bike. I was told to stay with the _________ ___________ because the order was already processed and it was excellent choice to begin with.

Hey Bro,
Why don't you auction off the secret to the highest bidder. Y'know like Carly Simon with  "You're So Vain" Was it Mick or Warren ? Only Carly and the guy who paid $50k know for sure. So I'll start - - $20 if you tell me and nobody else  8-)

Brian,
Don't think that would quite cover a set of new wheels for LD. Maybe I can deduct as extertainment expense or something ?  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Off course with all the performance and eyeball enhancements, the price goes up per mile right ?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Cheers bro'!
