The moco has no bounds to their offensive behavior! How many years until dealerships are sucking wind like they did in 83,84 or 85?

I sat on a new 15 cvo rgu today priced at $40,995  :nervous:

I just can not justify that kind of coin. My 13 FLTRU when done with motor, tranny, suspension, stereo. Led's....... might have $27k in it TOTAL......

I can build my Dirt Track sportster with 100hp with the remaining $14k.....

Fixing the shortfalls of that 2015 CVORGU will EASILY cost another $5k..... CRAZY! :'(

WAAAY more!

Yeah, I didn't want to go there  :P

Couldn't be helped! I'll be keeping Honey Badger. I thought she was expensive at $32,699 MSRP... but out the door with the ESP was almost $38,000. I paid cash with no trade-in... So no tax break for me.  :o

Plus all the mods... OK, I'm formally depressed now.

The only way out of this funk is to go ride the Cherohala Skyway and the Dragon tomorrow... Which coincidentally, I was planning to do with some riding buds anyway!

From day one on the Harley davidson website the bike was listed at $36,349.00, Wiseasp made out great. good for him! :2vrolijk_21:

Yes, the 2015 model year book states otherwise, one dealer explained to me the $36.349 was for the hard candy color? Can anyone confirm the three other colors are in fact less expensive? At msrp anyway.....

This was obviously a FUBAR on the dealer. I have read nothing but 36,349 from the day they were released. At any rate, you got some more upgrades for free IMO.

I think there is some confusion.
The book States that the regular colors are 35499.
The hard candy color price is not in the book, (it's blank next to the words optional color) which everything we've seen so far implies that the hard candy was supposed to be a printed price of 36349. Just as the website States.

I really don't think it's that big of a deal either way. You're gonna pay what they want at the dealer you purchase the bike from. If you're worried about 800 bucks, probably don't need to be buying 40k motorcycles...  :nixweiss:
Title: Re: FYI...It's official...price increase on 2015 CVO as of this morning...
Post by: grc on September 13, 2014, 11:20:04 AM

Yup.  And either way, the dealer is grossing about $7200 at MSRP so he's making out just fine, even if he did screw up and use an incorrect MSRP on early sales.

Harley will keep on jacking up the prices until people stop buying them.  Anyone who doesn't understand how Harley operates by now has either been sleeping for the past couple decades, or just hasn't been paying attention.

When the price of the toys finally gets to the point where average folks can't justify the outlay, or can't get the credit, then prices will stabilize.

 very true.
I can't imagine a car manufacturer/dealer pulling this crap and actually selling any car after doing it.
The crap HD gets away with, it's just unreal.

This 2015 CVO Street Glide dealer quote was provided today: (Yellow/Black)   I posted this same reply on another thread.

$36,349.00 (Apparently the original msrp was lower for some colors $35,499), but recently raised across the board-dealer caught this, this morning
300.00 (Dealer Processing Charge-not required by law-this fee depends on your state)
      435.00 (Freight Charge)
      465.00 (Dealer Prep Charge)
226.00 (Tag/Title/Transfer/Lien Fees=will vary based on your state)
1,118.94  (Tax, based on $18K trade for a '14 SG w/ABS and Security[bike is not a SG Special] w/13K miles and counting)

Total Price $38,893.94      '

Some thoughts: Please provide some honest feedback/suggestion to the forum

My pet peeve is the Dealer Processing Charge and Dealer Prep Charges. Agree/Disagree?

Service:1K break-in which will set you back $300.00 or so; and $300+ every 5K miles thereafter while under warranty if dealer serviced 2 yr/24K warranty--5 dealer service visits if you ride the warranty limit in 2 years)

The tax figure (6%) listed above is based on the difference between line 1 and 2 and $18K trade value; tax rate will vary (based on your state law-higher or lower tax rate);

Refundable $500.00 Down payment to hold

What are your thoughts? Feedback? Haggling? Deal you got?

Can someone share what they paid as outlined above? Real figures they paid/are paying.

What are you paying for a extended service plan (ESP) on a new bike---I have never purchased this in the past. What does it cover? I am not a fan of warranty plans, but you may be?

The consensus favorite color seems to be the Hard Candy???
Imo prep, freight, and any other bs charges should be omitted.

Not being a smart-a$$ but if you want that scoot I suggest not quibbling over the extra fees because if you don't take it someone else will, with those same #'s. Then you'll regret not getting it or you'll have to wait 3-4 months with nothing to do with your time except kick yourself for not getting it the first go-around.

in la, a lot of those fees are non-negotiable.  all the dealers charge them, and the same amount.  so i've been told.  and this has proven to be the case when i was shopping around for my bike, checked 4 dealers here, got the same fees at each one of them.

if you really want the bike, you can do a quick check at some other dealers to see if they have it, but if not, like dick says, jump on it or someone else will.  and then they'll be riding, and you'll be waiting.  the sting of the purchase price will wear off long before the joy you get from riding it.

With those numbersd I'd hold out. If enough people hold out they'll maybe they'll come back down to reality.
Time to give HD a check with this outrageous pricing and dealer mark ups.
I went to the dealer to try and make a deal on a 14 limited,  they told me they were flying off the floor while they had 22 in stock, so they weren't making any deals on them. Well, needless to say they still have 15 of those 22 limiteds in stock now which they are having trouble unloading.
If they keep this up they're going to have a lot of 2014 2015 and possibly 2016 in stock at the same time.
Now I'm going to wait until December to try and make a deal on a 2015 limited.

Probably why there's so many of them still in dealers stock.
Not much less than a 15' which I think offers better colors.

X2.

As I do agree with the above quote when I agreed to my final price by the time I did get my ride the Canadian dollar gain a bit on the U.S. dollar saving me over a $1000.00 bucks. The Harley dealer told me and gave it to me. I did not ask for it.

I've been waiting for the CVO Street Glide to come back and jumped on the oportunity to buy one.  Got the hard candy for $39750.00 tax, tags, setup, etc..  Ater all the extras (high flow exhaust + super tuner, color matching chopped tour pack with spoiler and led break light, dockin h/w, day maker leds, air defectors, etc)  my final bill 47K.  I saved for a few years and knew what I wanted and my dealership called me so I got the first one to arrive.  It helps the dealership is in York County PA where the bike was made.

Black 2014 msrp $25.9
Black 2015 dealer quoted msrp of $26.1
200.00 difference.
When spending 25k+ on any toy is 2k really that much money?
We all spend at least 2k on these bikes as soon as we buy them anyway.

Just reading this makes me throw up in my mouth a bit.  Don't get me wrong, I spent $32K and some change on Ginger....most I've ever spent on anything with just two wheels....and after 2 1/2 years, I'm still tickled with her.  But three of the four '15 CVO's are within a wild hair of the $40K mark.  At what point do we stop answering the price increase call?
Was out yesterday visiting SMHD on a very nice riding day in East Tennessee.  They had two new left over '14 CVO's at a discount (the white softail and the green SERK....the MoCo musta either built WAY to many in the green, people are still leary of a green motorcycle or it's just the color folks don't motivate to as this color seems to be the one remaining in most dealerships...I think it's a very nice color, BTW).  Anyway, they also had a couple nice used ones.  One blue '11 SEEG with 5,900 miles on the clock for $29K and one red '14 SE Limited with 6,400 miles on the clock for $35K.  The '14 is a "steal" at that price and mileage level.  Already $3-4K less than new list and it's still basically a new scooter.  At the current outrageous price point and sure to be greatly increased future price increase, It makes so much more sense these days to wait until the new has worn off the current model year OR watch the books/dealerships for the one your really want and get the used trailer/garage queen for much less than list.

OK, off my soapbox.

OK, off my soapbox.

For some people here, money isn't a problem. I can't really relate to that because I have never been in their shoes. I will just comment on this from a blue collar workers position who also happens to be raising 3 kids. I had to trade in my 09 FLHX that wasn't paid for but had plenty of equity to get into this bike. I have to make payments for 5 years to do it.  I was ok with paying the CVO premium, at least for the SG, when it was south of 35k new. I guess I learned this year that being north of 35k and actually not offering something so simple as a passenger backrest that had been included in the past was, FOR ME, is the point where I bow out. And luckily none of the new CVO SG's grab me the way my 12 does or I would be in a tougher position, although I think I would still walk away.

Now having said that I just want to say to all the guys that are buying and have bought a new CVO, congrats. This is just my particular stance and we are all different and living with different resources and scenarios. Just trying to say that HD is sure making it hard for a middle class guy to make his dream come true.

I must be missing something because the price increase from 14-15 is no more than 200.00 on the ultra limited, as confirmed by my dealer quote (Not the cvo, which is still only a $350.00 difference).
Where are you getting 2k?
If your getting this from your dealer I certainly won't shop there.

nicely put JSWERVE, couldn't have said it any better. Any where in around the $40k mark for two wheels no matter what she is, is a little ridiculous. But if that's what you want go crazy.

Some dealers I called today are quoting $35,499 still. Are the stickers for the Candy or all colors It seems to me that Harley should announce it. I know the website has shown starting at $36,349 but they also profile the Candy; meanwhile the dealers don't even seem to know, and it's Monday night, not Sat morning. Are they now saying all colors are equally priced?

I think the other 3 colors are/should be $35,499----the dealers who sold the Candy at that price may have got hurt--not the customer.

However, now what about the customer getting beat-no way the other. 3 should be priced like the Candy.

Thoughts-clarification-what do you see in your area? Tonight's price.

I don't have a dealer (don't have to worry about shopping anywhere not buying anything ;) ) and I don't even know what the original issue was at this point or how we got to this point. What was the comparison between?

King I just went back and reread everything. There was a typo that caused all the confusion. 14 Limiteds are 23k at my dealer. That's where the 2k comes from. It's no biggy, I personally would by a 14 vs a 15 and pump the 2k into a pipe, air breather, and tune. I don't see enough changes on the 15 to pay the difference between the 2. That was my point. If you feel differently that certainly is OK, after all, it's your scratch :)

Sorry for the confusion!  :2vrolijk_21:

Ok, a typo explains it.
I would try to beat the dealer on the 15 to start with. Hopefully they learned a lesson that a sale is better than keeping them. My dealer still has 10 2014s in stock,  if he don't deal on the 15 than that's one less sale he'll make until his14s are gone, I figure that's when he'll want to move his 15s. Either way they're scrambling now to move them but they ain't having much luck. Seasons almost over here now,  it's getting down in the low 50s.

HD changed their Web site to say that they're all priced at 36349.00 now.
That sucks, I understood the higher cost of the hard candy because it's additional on all the other lines.
I was looking into the yellow and black but I'm thinking now that i won't save the 800.00 the hard candy might hold value better.
Nah, I'm just gonna get a limited with the detachable kit. I've had enough of this cvo crap already.
They have destroyed resale on them so why bother at this point.

The 60s aren't too bad, the low 60s I'd probably still have to sit it out. I went to go for a ride Sunday morning and it was an even 50º with the high expected to creep it's way up to around 70 by 2pm then back down to the 50s by 4pm, I put it back in the garage. Lol
I can't do the cold anymore, to many ailments after the accident.
I think we might get 1 or 2 more good riding weeks but that's about it.
Last year we went into late October I think it was.

Same here. If it's not at least mid 60's with sunshine, it's staying in the garage. I've got just shy of 10k in this season which isn't too bad considering we basically only get May-September and it's been cold in May and September this year!

The arthritis is the worst part and recently told I have rsd from the permanent nerve damage in my foot don't help. Just surprised I was able to and got to ride as much as I did this season. I got in a whole 900 miles, really not bad considering how bad my accident was just a year ago. I still hurt a lot but life goes on like it or not.
Our season usually goes from April-october, this year didn't hit mid 60s until around the middle of June and our September is the same as yours, too dam cold already.
Must be all this global warming.  Ha

I know this has been debated in the past also but the gap is getting bigger for pricing for us north of the boarder.

As posted on the Harley web sites.

$36 349 U.S.
$44 379 CAD.

$8 030 Deference. :o

I haven't checked the conversion rate lately but was hoping you folks up north were getting some relief with this... That's a significant cost increase for an already expensive endeavor in either country. I like going into Canada but haven't been in the east much due to work requirements - riding was a back burner activity for a couple of seasons. All behind me now hopefully - next season I'll ride the Maritimes and maybe plan a return to Newfoundland if time permits.

Jesse - when I was your age now I was riding, but with three kids as well and working to support the family, looking at a CVO was really out of the question. Good for you is all I can say - you're doing well...

I can't imagine it costing HD that much more to bring them across the boarder.
Does it really or does HD think the Canadians have that much more money than us?
The HD pricing is really ridiculous the days.

Something else that bothers me with the motor company, they say in most of their new ads that they have listened to the customer?
Who were they listening to for real, had to be their financial advisers because although we said we wanted things fixed and tech brought up to par, they obviously didn't hear us about the outrageous cost of buying and accessorizing their ever failing endeavors.

CVO's are the elite Harley Davidson motorcycles, the top of the line and command twice the price of a standard bike, if its beyond your price point complaining about it or thinking that holding out is going to magically drop the price is ridiculous, if 1k is going to break the bank on a 40k purchase maybe you need to look at a Honda or a Victory.......just sayin  :confused5:

We do ok. I drive a 96 Jeep. I bought it in 99. My wife drives a 2001 Jeep. No car payments. Our home was 65k nothing fancy. We bought the CVO because we spend the entire summer riding. If we ever slow down and can't justify the purchase we will sell it and move on. I don't really see that happening. If anything, in a cpl years when the kids are all out of the nest, I can see adding a camper with a toy hauler and doing some bucket list rides.  :2vrolijk_21:

I don't think the cvo commands twice the price anymore (i don't think anyone believes that anymore) the moco destroyed that concept a few years ago with over saturating the market with cvos.
It wouldn't be a magical drop in price, if people would stop throwing money at HD they'd have no choice but to change their price point across the board. I'm not on a crusade, I don't see how Harley thinks they have a product worth 40k with their poor quality control track record.
1k is not an issue, the 40k is not either, the issue is what are you getting for that 40k. I'll never spend 40k on a Harley, a 40k msrp on a Harley is what's really ridiculous. Don't get me wrong I do love my Harley but at least Honda sells you a bike with the intention of you not needing service shortly after purchase, HD don't care if you make it out of the parking lot and several of their elite cvos don't make it very far at all.
Just my opinion, some of it is fact though and can be verified by just reading this forum.

Ride safe!

X2.

I love my ride and I cannot see myself riding anything else. I have 7 motorcycles and my CVO is the one I love to ride the most. Bottom line is if you want it you will pay for it. When I seen my 2011 in black I just had to have it. Never seen it in person or sat on one. Seen it on the intranet in a picture. Never asked how much till they dealer wrote up the final bill of sale.

For the record I paid, for my 2011 CVOSG $53 171.80 (not complaining) and that does not include the Full Sac exhaust and other extras.

Before buying my new 2015 SESG my wife and I rode the BMW and the Honda. Forget the culture associated with the Harley, It's still a better bike. Way more torque, better seating for both the rider and passenger, sound system on the BMW was pathetic, storage access, and lastly overall fit and finish. Hands down a superior motorcycle in my opinion.

Interesting comments jagerbomb…  I don’t even bother to debate issues regarding different manufacturers, which is best, better, etc. – it’s pointless. I’m happy with what I’m riding and I hope they are also. I’ve talked with people I know or meet in my travels and have heard various scathing comments about Harleys for all kinds of reasons, as well as positive ones. Does kind of point out the fact the MoCo is the firm setting the standard to some degree.

At one time it felt like I was replacing vehicles rather than replacing tires when they needed them. :D However now vehicles are just what they are... a way to get around.... I think I'll always have a "Harley" (or clone)... just don't think I'll be giving my money to the MoCo directly anymore. I do understand the "catch my eye or ear the way a Harley does" thing as I was drawn to them as a youngster the first time I ever saw/heard one. For me I've just come to the point where I would rather have a used bike (if I find one that moves my soul like when I first saw my current bike) or build (have built rather) something. IMO when a company gets to the point that they don't care about the customers that are putting money in their pockets they don't deserve my money.

How many of us go out to a car dealer and pay MSRP plus? Almost every motorcycle dealer I know will have a "we'll pay the tax" sale at the winter bike shows or next summer when the 16s roll in. The local dealer near Delaware marked down the 14 Ultras by avg 3k in July 2014.

The sales mgr also said the dealer, like many others, are growing frustrated because of over supply.

Lastly, Harley lost sales to Indian-ask Wall Street.
However, I prefer the Ultra and Street Glide than the Roadmaster and Chieftain. I rode both in Sturgis....

The last 2 bikes I have purchased have been used. Saw krypto when it came out in late 2010 and knew I would own when the right deal came along. I bought it when 13's came out with 1100 miles. I can't stand dealers, new car or new motorcycle, and refuse to subject myself to the misery of purchasing from them, and feeling like I been violated. So when any of you guys are ready to sell one of them low mileage hard candy SG's in a year or 2, look me up, that's the next one I will own!!

The 2 dealers in NJ I tried to deal with wouldn't budge on the 2014 classic or limiteds. They told me they were selling like mad because of the twin cooled 103. I wasn't falling for that bs and refused to pay msrp because everything I was reading and seeing was quite the opposite. Obviously they were full of it because they both have plenty of 14 in stock.

That's right $6500.00!! With all the mark ups, dealer fees, set up, etc, the cash price was over $44,500!  They are mighty proud of their bike.

My 2011 CVO SG is looking really good right now.

They are the worst dealer on the planet!! They tried to do the same to me when I got my bike and refused to trade it to San Diego saying that I would have no choice but to go to them and pay their price. San Diego told me where I could find it (had to go to Oregon to get it but I would have gone to Africa before I let El Cajon strong arm me..) which made me a good loyal customer to them going forward and I feel tHat they are a fantastic dealer. El Cajon could absolutely care less about pissing people off because they have done that for years and someone always ends up paying their markup..
