Sorry for the multiple pics! Used it on the way home which is about 40 miles and went off twice. 1st time said there was a police office 4000 ft ahead and there was (this model has the bluetooth which accesses Escort Live which is their mobil network) which did amaze me. I was most happy it wasn't going off with false alarms every 5 minutes. The other time it went off was when I passed the police officer union hall which made sense. Hopefully will keep me from getting another da.. ticket!

Pretty clean installation Alan.

When it comes on and accelerates really fast look over on the other side of the freeway and you'll usually see a CHP going to the opposite direction.  And it's rare but sometimes you'll see a motor officer sitting on a surface street off of the freeway.

Oh yes, the signs that say "Your speed......." with your speed flashing will also set it off.  That's about the only false signals I've gotten.   :nixweiss:

Thanks very much for those photos!  I have a couple of questions...
Are those stock handlebars, and if not, how much wider are they than stock?  I looked at my stock bars and it seemed like no matter how I would mount it (control mount or handlebar mount), I would still be firing the thing through the windshield, which Radar Roy said would negate it's ability to pick up lasers.  I don't want to use more than about a 3" extension bar on the mount, as I don't want it sticking up so far it looks silly.
Part of my problem is that I have a Freedom shield, which is wider than your shield seems to be.
I'd be really interested to know how well your unit picks up radar being fired at you from the LEFT side of the road?  It would seem to me that with the width of my RG windshield combined with the distance from the shield to the handlebar, that this would cut off (or inhibit) a lot of signals from one side of the road or the other, depending on where you mounted it.
Thanks again for your time!

Well...I just had an email conversation with Radar Roy and sent him the pic below.
He tells me there's basically no way to mount a detector on my bars without losing the ability to detect incoming laser signals.  He said and I quote, "if it did (detect a laser signal) it would just mean pull over, you already got a ticket."  He also said a remote detector isn't waterproofed enough for a bike, but I'd already told him I didn't want a remote unit, as I wanted to use the same detector in my cars.
Sounds like I'm barking up the wrong tree, guys.  Crud.

Go back to the first page of this thread and look at the pics I posted.  The Techmount mount has a couple of swivels on it (top and bottom) so I'm not sure that you couldn't swivel it out a bit further (like directly behind the edge of your mirror) that would allow for it to shoot past the windshield.   :nixweiss:

Go back and look at post #34 again, JC.  I've looked at getting a 3" extension arm on the Techmount, but it would actually have to be out in front of the mirror stalk to clear the windshield and be in-line up with the road.  With it being over that far, I wouldn't be able to see it very well, as it would be way to the left and down and outside my "stare or riding peripheral" I guess you could call it.
Now go back and look at your third picture on your post #9 at the clearance you have to the left of the windshield, and...your unit is much closer to the windshield than on my RG, making it better at picking up radar/laser signals from a cop on the RIGHT side of the highway.
I dunno...maybe I'll call Roy and tell him I'll buy it all from him if he won't have a problem with me shipping at least the mount back to him.  I can still used the detector in my cars until I find a better mounting system.  I know he's got a 30 money-back and I think he'd be willing to give it a go, expecially knowing that I'd be likely to keep the detector!
Thanks again, JC!

I have the Chubby 12.5 bars (I think the model is 502). I also researched these pretty hard and agree that if you get hit with the laser it is already too late so I wouldn't worry as much about it going through the windshield. I used it again today and it only went off once but sure enough there was a cop after it went off which was great! I fought putting a unit on my bike strictly because of looks but it seems like it is going to be a very good thing. I am still going to run the wire in the handlebar in a couple of weeks after I am 100% sure I am keeping it but I have rode with JC and if he hasnt got a ticket since installing his it certainly isnt because he is such a upstanding law abiding citizen...  :)
Thinking I will keep it

Hold the phones!  Shut the front door!
Look what I found in my box of old parts!  It ain't purty, but it may just work for me right now!  The arm is 6" long, which when mounted from the control bolts is enough room to get me outside the windshield and not interfere with the mirror, and not have to angle the detector outward to avoid aiming it at the windshield, plus it moves the detector closer to the windshield!
JC, I got to looking at your pictures again and I thought...I think I have some old RAM-Mount stuff from years ago.  If this works, I could look at getting the setup chromed if I just can't stand the flat black.  I used to use this setup for a camera or GPS mount, and it holds securely once it's tightened down good.

There's laser jammers designed for guys like you! :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

You know, that may come a time when I get another ticket.  But I have to say that this detector has already paid for itself at least a few times over.  :2vrolijk_21:    When the time comes that I get a ticket due to laser......well, I'll let you know how those undetectable motorcycle laser jammers work.  :P

Keep in mind if you get an Escort with Live its a social network for radar detectors.    Escort Live also pulls from Waze but doesn't write to it so you get generic alerts about speed traps and what not which helps.

So people ahead of you get dinged, you get warned.   I get heads up miles out all the time with mine.

I don't intentionally speed, but it happens.    I've had two speeding tickets in 20 years.   Both times I deserved them and it was because I wasn't paying attention to my speed and all by myself.   It wasn't 5 miles over, mainly speed traps.   I've avoided tickets many times while not paying attention with this thing.

You'll get these on back roads all the time where speed drops to 25 when you have been going 55.

Due to learning the false alarms I rarely get false alarms anymore, including from the your speed is X.   Pass it a few times and it remembers.

Have quite a few miles on it now and it really works well.Running the wires in the bars this weekend to really clean it up. Another benefit I found is that since it uses blue tooth, if you are using your phone as a music source (Pandora, iPod, etc) the voice telling you what the threat coming up will play over the speakers. You can turn it off if you want but I like that feature.
