Title: 2016 FLTRUSE Front turn signal question
Post by: tmatahead on February 18, 2019, 02:34:08 PM
I just bought a ‘16 sergu, in the past I changed the front signals to “Dynamic Rings”, offered by Custom Dynamics.  I can’t find if the 16 model is 1157 bulb or 3157.  Please, don’t reply with “Remove the lens and look”...I won’t take delivery for about a week, I’d like to get a few things set, ready to make the bike my own.

Thanks

3157, small 3 or 4 pin connector, can’t remember how many pins it is. You will also have to remove the front fairing to get enough slack in the wires to plug it in, unless you have hands the size of a 5 year old like me.

CVO Models use a JAE base

This is correct, same as the 15 SERGU I use to have.

Custom dynamic supposedly has a video on how to do it with out removing fairing to get enough slack to un plug.  I have just always removed fairing.

Yep,HD sold me wrong ones, called Custom and they said return them and they sent correct JAE. Did not have to remove fairing, was pretty easy, straight forward install if  i recall. Call them if you need to, they are happy to help you out.

I removed my fairing. No other option. Stuart.

Sorry, have to disagree. I would call Custom Dynamics. I removed my 2011 fairing 4 or 5 times for different things I've owned by 2016 since 2016 and have yet to ever remove the fairing yet I have the Custom Dynamic turn signals installed and I know I did it without removing the fairing

See 4th row down, middle video. Even though they show Street Glide, was exact same for my Road Glide. No need to even touch the fairing

Well I will have you know that on the cvo road glide you have no slack to pull the wire forward enough to remove the plug. So the fairing has to come off to allow more wire to pull from.  Try it on a road glide sometime. It's not even close.     Stuart

Don't want to argue, did it on my 2016, lights are on, fairing NEVER been removed. Don't know how else to say it. Plus video on the Custom Dynamics page shows how

I'm not arguing either. Had to do the same on the 19cvo rg also.

I also had to remove the fairing on my Road Glide.   I think it depends upon how much slack they left in the wires that are adhered with sticky pads to the inside of the fairing when it was assembled.   If they are tight,  the faring has to come off.  If there is slack then you might be able to reach the release...
The good news is that the faring is really easy to remove so it's not really that big of a deal!

Exactly.  Had to remove the fairing on the 15 CVO RGU, the 18 CVO RG and the 19 CVO RG to do the Custom Dynamics LED turns.  Not enough slack to get to the release button.  Even tried with a small screwdriver to release it.

Spent more time trying to do it with out removing the fairing than it took to remove the fairing and reinstall it.  Simple on the Rushmore road glides compared to the 13 and earlier ones.  For the 18 and 19 fairing was coming off any way to install CB and Garage door opener.
