I want to flip flop the left and right passenger floorboards on my 2018 CVO Limited so my calves aren’t alway bumping into the passenger floorboards, but I’m having a hard time getting a 5/16 hex wrench on the lower floorboard bracket where it attaches to the frame of the bike. The bracket keeps you from getting a straight shot to insert the hex wrench into the bolt. Does anybody have any tricks or advice to get this thing off. I’ve tried standard hex wrenches, hex ball wrenches, and socket style hex wrenches, and haven’t been able to get any of them into the bolt. Does anybody have a trick to use or able to point me in the right direction for anything I’m missing? I’m appreciative.

I've had to cut down a hex key in the past to get it into tight spots.... you may want to try that unless somebody has a better idea/solution.

Many thanks. I’ve had that in the back of my head, but I don’t have anything to cut something like that.

Swing by your local mechanic whether it be your car wrench or bike wrench. Ask them to break them loose for you and toss them a tip. Most places will do something like that in hopes of repeat business.

I had access to a grinder at work to shorten mine.

Cant you rotate the passenger floorboards to a different height so you dont have that problem?

I believe once you remove the upper bolt the floorboard will slide UP so you then have access to the bottom bolt.

Thanks, fellas. I’ve had the top bolt off a couple of times, and rotated and slid the floorboard around, but didn’t have any luck. I’m going to give it a shot again tomorrow as y’all have me convinced that my dumb ass is missing something that’s going to make this easy, lol. I appreciate the replies.

Well, the “mystery” is solved, fellas, and as I first said, there was a definite dumbass factor. The top hex bolt, which is really easy to see and accessible, is a 5/16. The bottom one, which ISN’T so easy to see OR accessible, turns out to be a frickin’ 1/4 hex bolt! I didn’t see THAT written anywhere in the shop manual in the taking the floorboards off section, I’ll tell you that. Anyway, I got them off and flip flopped, and happier I could not be. I must have 4 more inches of room now between putting my feet down or backing the bike up from bashing the back of my calf into that passenger floorboard, whether it was up or down, mind you. Anyway, thanks for your help, and you’re welcome for the laugh that you’re getting from this brain fart.

Same deal, tired of them biting my calves. I usually flip them up and get pointed out before Mother gets on. I'll have to look into the swap...we'd been looking at different boards as her boots have a bit of a heel and she wants to try something that will allow the heel to drop off the back.

Flip flopping them did exactly what I wanted and gave me more room, but it’s going to move the wife’s floorboards back a bit, so it’s not going to help her with having her heel off the back of the floorboard. You’re going to like it and maybe she’ll get used to it, lol.
