Title: H-D Extended Warranty
Post by: Badger Mike on February 14, 2019, 02:32:50 PM
So, I'm having some buyers remorse on my H-D extended warranty that I purchased last fall when I bought my new CVO.  I can't remember the last time I bought an extended warranty, maybe my 2013 F-250 Diesel.  Has anyone tried to sell back their warranty?

Not on a bike but I did sell back extended warranty on a Dodge and took a bath. With the many problems Harley seems to continually have Id keep it.

It should be a very easy process to cancel your warranty service contract. Just go into or call the selling dealer and talk to the finance dept. and share your intent. They should only need ID, a signature and proof of current mileage. Your refund will be calculated and either mailed to you if you paid cash or to your lien holder which usually takes 3 to 6 weeks to process, they will then credit your account for said amount. If you do have a lien holder your monthly payment will not reflect this change but your term will.

Hope this helps.

Remember it is not an actual warranty and does not have the bindings/guarantee's that a warranty has.

Just go to the dealer and cancel it - Even with a lien, I have seen them just hand the check over.

I will say though, I never buy them, buy bought it on my 14 including wheel and tire, 1st year, hit a pallet that feel off a truck. it replaced my wheel, tire, wheel bearings, axle, and rotor bolts, steering head serviced and seals checked. The wheel and tire cost more than the policy.

I bought it on my 17 CVO because of a new motor etc.... 600 miles, hit a bad bridge connection, new CVO wheel, and tire, bang, paid for the policy again and I'm still covered for the sumping, transfer etc... if they occur or even another damn bent wheel.

Keep lt.   It's great to have it if you should ever need it.  Last year I blew up my transmission. Paid the $50.00 deductible and I was on my way.   Would have been 3000.00 if I didn't have it.     I promise you that you will be sorry if you cancel it.    I would never do that.    Stuart.

On my 12 which will expire in May I went to cancel when I pout in the 124 and the dealer talked me out of it which I was pissed at myself for falling for. After that it ended up paying for itself many times over. Am very happy I didn't cancel.
Just my experience

X2

By the time mine expired I was up to $32 000 CAN in warranty work. I could not renew it as I surpassed the KM/MI limit or I would have.

Now there's a sales pitch to be proud of:  "Be ready to spend the cost of the bike on repairs."

And HD wonders why people aren't lining up to buy more of their bikes.

I am a property insurance adjuster. I see daily, people who wished they had purchased more insurance. It only pays to have extended warrantee if you need it, then it is well worth it. If you need it and do not have it.....Like most of my customers, you will blame me and then call your agent (dealer here) and ask to buy it. No one EVER wants to pay for insurance, but ALWAYS glad they did when they need it.

Remember, most people buying an extended warranty don't need it.  If they did, the issuing company couldn't make money and wouldn't offer it.  However, with the myriad of issued with HD's M8, I'd keep it....and I never opt for extended warranties.

This is a common misnomer in the insurance industry. the companies don't make any money on your premium. They make money by reinvesting all premiums

Like everyone has said... keep it!  Bought one on my 2010 Road King... new transmission... $50.  My 2014 CVO Road King is in the shop right now with a full engine replacement and over $9k in repairs (blown exhaust bearing) and I'll pay my $50 and go.  The ESP also covers rental (car, not bike).  Totally.  Worth.  Every.  Dime!

You are talking what, $20-$40 a month in your payment for total peace of mind???  Goes a long way in my book!

Never was a fan of extended warranty till I bought a 2007 SERK.  after 2 yrs I went to dealer with all the repairs in the first 2 yrs and complained that I do not think I should have to buy coverage when I take great care of my bike. He agreed and sold be the 5yr extra for 1/2 price, I then saved about 8 grand with repairs for the next 5 yrs.New engines trans etc. . Same with the 2014 new engine and other misc. My dealer has always taken great care . never did it take more than  a week to repair. They always gave me a loaner. Now I drive 15000 miles a year. if I only drove the usually 2 or 3 thousand I don't think I would purchase the extended warranty.    Billy

You have to be out of your mind to own a HD without the ESP. period.            Just saying.   Stuart.  :nixweiss:

More commonly refereed to as "muffler bearings" They are located right next to the blinker fluid reservoir! :huepfenjump3:

On general principle I have always refused to buy extended service agreements for any kind of product, and over the decades I've come out many tens of thousands of dollars to the good.  Now that you have to be crazy to buy a Harley without an ESP, that just gives me one more reason to not buy a new Harley.

Ha!  I dont know what it's called.  I heard "bearing" "exhaust" and "metal shards".  That's the extent of my engine component knowledge base!   :bananarock:

Once I get it back I'll post the exact diagnosis.

When I was picking up my bike after a service and the guy said they went ahead and changed out the front bearings because it's under warranty so $50 rather than whatever-the-heck it is retail, I was glad.

When the heated grips ate themselves and "Oh, that's covered"  The warranty paid for itself with that one thing.

It's paid for itself three-four times over by now in two years.
