Receipts kept?
« on: February 27, 2008, 09:07:11 AM »

Even though CVO bikes have a lot of custom options they are still modified and changed by us for our personal preferences.  Whether they be upgrades, chrome, or accessories.  Does anyone add up what they have put into their bikes above the purchase price or do they just keep the receipts like me and will never add them up?

I do, and I have a running spreadsheet w/the info. Sometimes sad to look at (especially don't want the wife to see ;)) as there are still some items I'd like to get. But hell, I'd like to hit the lottery too. :huepfenlol2:

Keep them all, try to stay orginizied.  Have come in handy a few times.  Also keep detailed service log on work or service of bikes.

Oh yea, forgot to add I've kept all the receipts for additions (parts), and service. I was just thinking the other day that I should scan them to PDF files just to have electronic copies in a fire safe vault.

Keep all receipts as I do with all me vehicles (It's the mechanic in me to keep records), but the only thing I have added up was all the warranty work done on the CUSE. Just under $12,000 so far, 22,000 miles. Do you think they will sell me an extended warranty in December? Dave

Not at home at the moment to say for sure, but I'm thinking at least 4, maybe 5 pages.

Had all receipts in a BIG drawer of my tool chest, drawer was overflowing so I put it all down on a spread sheet. That night I had a terrible nightmare about wifey finding and going through the receipts, got up and destroyed them. Sometime later I was updating the file and looked at the total spent, at that point I removed all the dollar amounts because I don't ever want to be reminded of that again.

I need to carify this. Mark I sent you every tech sheet for everything on Elvis but as I recall, had tossed the actual receipts - - - correct ? Since you can verify every one of those parts as being on the bike, I expect you could get full value if anything ever happened to Big E.

B B, I kept everything on Elvis since that was not right out of my wallet. :)
I was just speaking of the NANA that I told Kathy I would not need to spend a cent on since it had everything already on it from the factory. :)

Have an accurate listing of all additions or changes actually on the bike.  It's even kept updated if something is replaced (like one exhaust comes off to be replaced by Fatcats).  A file is kept of the receipts, but only those for which some warranty handling is a potential.

Numeric total though?  Nope.  Never going to happen.  Don't want to know.  Never even going to consider the option.  Wouldn't be prudent at this time.

That's all I'd need, to know how much money has been poured down THIS hole.

I think they're laying around somewhere, but the last thing I'll ever do is look at them. Why would anyone ever want to know how much has been spent? I've got enough things to upset me without adding this to the list.

Gary, I can actually do a pretty good running tally in my head.  I'm certain the overall total of money spent on the red bike is about 1500 bucks.  That's it.  That's all.  That's what my mind believes.  Not bad for all I've tricked it out :2vrolijk_21: .

Everyone else-
Your like me, don't want to know the total but have kept the receipts for our reasons.  The total doesn't matter anyway as we all enjoy riding and the sport and that's all that matters.  Anyone else wouldn't understand.

Knowing how much I spent customizing my 06' RKC is what justified me to buy my CVO Springer. I have much more $$$ put into my RKC than I would have spent purchasing a SERK and customizing it, and I still plan on spending more $$$ on building the engine of MY RKC. I figured that if I'm going to spend the money customizing, I might as well have a head start with the chrome goodies, buy a CVO bike and get the bigger engine rather than customizing a non-cvo bike and still having to replace/rebuild a perfectly good engine to get better performance out of the bike.

I keep receipts only in case the day comes that I need to prove something to an insurance company...  Short of that, I buy what I want for my bike, when I want it and don't really want to know or care what it adds up to...  It is my hobby and where I find relaxation and enjoyment.  It costs whatever it costs...  I don't hunt, I don't fish, ect...  I ride motorcycles... :2vrolijk_21:

I'll even add to it....  I don't own a country club membership, a camper, a boat, or season tickets to anything.  I don't gamble.  I'm home every evening with my family.  Every Friday, I buy a 12pk of expensive beer.  That's about it.

I keep mine too.  It's simple.  I come home and have a folder for everything.  I open the drawer, find the folder, and stuff the receipt in.  It keeps me organized, nothing more.  I can find anything I need in a couple seconds.

Have all reciepts and a spreadsheet. The numbers are scary :nervous: Kept mostly for insurance purposes.

Yep, same as Jim. Also keep the info for the future in case I ever part with the SERK and the next owner will benefit from the records.

Gary, I can actually do a pretty good running tally in my head.  I'm certain the overall total of money spent on the red bike is about 1500 bucks.  That's it.  That's all.  That's what my mind believes.  Not bad for all I've tricked it out :2vrolijk_21: .

It's amazing how easily the mind can be deceived ain't it Don - especially when you put your mind to it!

OK, OK, I forgot about the fishing.  I only spend about $300/yr on gear and charters.  (OMG, that's a lot of chrome)  Good thing I don't keep fishing receipts.  I justify it all by not smoking.  That $6/day for cigarettes adds up to a lot of chrome also.

edit:  just noticed the hypocrisy of the above comment since I'm holding a cigar in my avatar photo.  My brother gave that to me during my daughters grad party, honest..... :nervous:

Keep the receipts for most things on the bike, and also keep a spreadsheet, which probably needs to be updated.  Just for insurance purposes though...it all gets stuffed in a folder with the installation instructions (most of the time).

It's not hard to keep up with my cost on the bike though, since, like Ken, I only spent $750.00..... ::) ;D :drink:

I have all receipts.  In fact, I probably still have most boxes that the add-on stuff came in with the take-off stuff stored in them.
I have never totaled all the receipts.....not sure that would be a good idea.  A total figure might make me (and others) wonder about my sanity.

Have thought about doing the spread sheet computer thing, but always seem to have better things to do ;D

Receipts are kept in a binder.  Keep that binder tucked away.  Thump is a keeper.  Don't want to go through the heartache of losing her.  Heck I'm still hurtin' from the Blue Ultra.  I don't think I'll ever tally expenditures.

Oh yea, forgot to add I've kept all the receipts for additions (parts), and service. I was just thinking the other day that I should scan them to PDF files just to have electronic copies in a fire safe vault.

Keep receipts & no need to total.  Like Ken & Terry - they all total $750.

Actually it's $749.99 rounded up.

I've got a new strategy which seems to work:
Pay cash, install quickly, and dispose of all evidence before the wife sees it!
No receipts!

Ya pretty close to mark there bro. My good lady wouldn't know what the heck I had put on or taken off of the bike. To her it's just a motorbike that takes her from one cool place to another whilst seeing some good ch*t on the way.

Saying that she wouldn't really care anyway - as long as it makes me happy it makes her happy too.

Even though CVO bikes have a lot of custom options they are still modified and changed by us for our personal preferences.  Whether they be upgrades, chrome, or accessories.  Does anyone add up what they have put into their bikes above the purchase price or do they just keep the receipts like me and will never add them up?

Bike are a personal Choice, Modify, paint and you get the same return as a mobile home. NONE
Ride it or look at as Dirverway jewerly its your, Do you keep your Health care receipts? it's equals the same BS :2vrolijk_21:

All this chatter reminds me of the time Cindy mentioned she had seen a receipt from one of my recent visits to the gun shop I frequent.

She commented that the gun (340 Weatherby) I had purchased wasn't as expensive as she thought it would have been.

Puzzled as to how she'd know I asked what receipt she'd seen.

The one in the kitchen she replied ($1450.00).

Oh I said, that wasn;t for the gun, that's for the binoculars I picked up the other day.  :huepfenlol2:

She said right then and there, she wasn't looking at receipts I leave around ever again.  So, my bike receipts go totally ignored as well as any others I leave out by mistake.

What - no huntin, shootin or fishin !!!

A man has to have other main hobbies as well as his main hobby.

 :2vrolijk_21:

With Iski here.  If there is spare time I ride.  Don't barhop.  Don't ride it to the store.  Whether it's somewhere or nowhere; it's at least a gas tank away most of the time.

And I do have other hobbies.  I ride north.  I ride south.  I ride east.  I ride west.  I ride when it's hot.  When it's not.  In the rain too.  Though I hate starting out in the rain.

For severe OCD, you have found nirvana in this website.

My BSR saves the medical receipts & I save the bike receipts so I can re-order something if it screws up later, mainly, and get the same part from the same place cuz I suffer from CRS.

You forget . . . . . all SERGs are stock (no matter what you do to 'em), therefore, you're just buying another bike, not starting the modification process over! :2vrolijk_21:  What can be the harm in that? :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

I don't understand that.  But I believe every word of it :2vrolijk_21: !

Not in my experiences.... I've had some FWB that were high maintenance (not maintained by me though), but when it came time for the "B" "Booty Call" it didn't make a difference because we were both there for the satisfaction. They were like the ole slogan for the Texaco stations...... "A nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there". ;)

What - no huntin, shootin or fishin !!!

A man has to have other main hobbies as well as his main hobby.

 :2vrolijk_21:

I'll give you an example of my schedule - I live on a golf course and have not actually golfed in about 5 years - and I have a cabin on a 7000 acre lake and don't fish!  Although I do float around on a pontoon from time to time - after the 300 bike ride (one way) between my home and cabin.  A Friday evening 300 mile ride to the cabin, waking up early Saturday morning and walking out to the recliner on the deck overlooking the lake and watching the sunrise - that is my hobby!

I'd trade even up.  Except for waking up for sunset vs sunrise!  :huepfenjump3:

Interesting post - - - - is there a connection between the two somehow ?

B B
Yes, most assuredly a connection.  The best medicine for me is riding my motorcycle.  Makes all stressors and a lot of pains dimish if not dissapear.

Since I didn't give you a receipt for our deal, I know of some stuff you don't have accounted for Joe  ::)

"Spares" don't count do they?  :nixweiss:  :huepfenjump3:  I track what's installed, not what's sitting in boxes awaiting the opportunity to get installed. Faulty logic no doubt, but somehow werks fur meh.  :2vrolijk_21:

Too damn bad we cannot deduct our rides as entertainment or OCD mental health deductions!! Of course we'd have to be loco to do that .....wouldn't we ?  :nixweiss:

I have found keeping receipts helps to have other purchases that you will never wear or use.

Most of em are probably laying around somewhere. I don't GAS about resale. And if I were ever to sell it, my bike speaks for itself. I don't concern myself about receipts! ;)

I absolutely LOVE the format of these pictures. (all black and white except the bike...)  What do they call that?  I have never seen it anywhere before.

The BSR is nice too, but I REALLY like the format!!! sorry  :jack:
