Some mods...
« on: April 19, 2013, 11:50:32 PM »

Nearly new, 168 miles, when it came to me to have a few changes made....we black powder coated nearly everything that was chrome, added cams, TTS, fullsac XD pipe, 2.25 cores, RSD black ops Air cleaner,  Monotubes in front and suspension tech shocks in the rear.....

Powder coating was done to all the floorboard brackets, pans, and mounts. Foot pegs and shifter pegs were taken apart to have their bodies coated, shift linkage and shift arms, oil cooler cover, engine guard, signals and fairing mounts....all black now

Lifter blocks, pushrods tubes, saddlebag mounts, etc,etc....all black. Heat shields were painted using a mil spec flat black high heat paint. This stuff does not burn off or change color.

And the Dyno sheet....110hp and 117 tq. A bit soft on the bottom due to the 2.25 cores but really come alive at 2750 rpm and pulls hard through redline.

It's gorgeous Jim.  There's one detail there I wonder about though.  To each his own tastes of course.  But I'm not a fan of the gloss black outer primary right against the granite inner.  To me it's a contrast rather than a complement.  The smaller timer and tranny covers on the other side don't stand out as much.  But each time I see the gloss black outer primary I wish they offered one to match the engine.

Thanks, and I Agreed Don, IF it was a granite inner. :huepfenlol2: It's black wrinkle as well as the engine and tranny case. Pictures don't show it well. The outer primary, cam cover and rocker covers were black from the moco. We added the rest. And I also would have done something different to the timer and derby cover but the customer wanted those left alone. All and all it looks much better than the mix of chrome and black the way came!

Just went back and looked here on the PC.  Was seeing it on a cell phone screen last night.  Oops....  :huepfenlol2:

I'd have to be careful or picky with all the wrinkle/denim colors and gloss next to them.  Some guys may love the combinations.  For me though they often just seem to clash a bit.  More so when there closer to each other like the granite or black against a gloss black.  Have seen a red denim bike with some gloss black against it and  liked that better.  It's a good thing we're all at least a little different.  Would get boring otherwise.

What was the approximate cost for the powder coating, excluding labor for dis / assembly?

I'm considering similar work this winter and would like an idea how much I need to put away.

I see you had the bike dyno tuned. What  did u use for a tuner? Did u try a canned map and if so how much better was the bike after dyno tuned?

Bike was tuned with the TTS. Cams and exhaust were added so a huge improvement over stock.

Holy crap! What a beautiful bike you have! I really like all of the black powder coated parts. You took care of everything, it looks like.

I was never into the blacked out look until the MoCo started coming out with the SERGs that it just seemed to fit right on. The black look is really growing on me. I think I'll always be a chromaholic, but your bike is simply stunning!

Well done!

Was on the fence about staying with chrome or witching the exhaust to black..
Loving the black look. But I'm going to do chrome primary/cam cover/trans cover
to add some contrast back into the motor bay.
Looks sharp, V&H here I come!!  :P

hd-dude,

Did the 9255 kury plate require any drilling into the fender or does it mount to existing holes?

You need to drill new holes for mounting.

Start talking.... Lol. How did you take apart the passenger pegs to powder oat them and how did you powder oat the floorboard inserts?! Please help I want to do the same treatment to my Skpunk!!

Thanks!
