Could he have put non-stock cams in the motor MOCO sent back and THEN the motor would be 1450cc's thereby solving this issue? ...Thanks fella's
I'm a latecomer to this thread, sorry.
As everyone else said, you couldn't get a 1450 Evo from HD. Some think that every HD Big Twin engine made in 2000 or later was 1450, but the FXR4 had the 1340.
The cam doesn't have anything to do with displacement. Its function is to determine when the valves open and close, and how far they open. (maximum lift in fractions of an inch)
The 1450 Twin Cam uses different spark plugs than the 1340 Evo. The TC plugs are smaller in thread diameter and they won't interchange.
S&S, Axtell, Sputhe (I think) and no doubt others make bigger cylinders for an Evo. As far as I know, the largest practical bore is about 3 5/8" (88 CI with 4.25 stroke) due to stock case issues. HD made some very weak cases in about 1989 or so until about 1993, 1994. Those were not suitable for large overbores. Aftermarket cases go -way- up in displacement and the limit there is how big an engine will fit in your frame, do you want to go with a stronger chain drive, etc. R&R has, for example, a 155 Evo. and S&S made a few 145s. A 124 is a nice swap.
