2001 Screamin Eagle Fish Tail end caps.......I know some folks really like these....me too.... 8)
someone told me they were early Screamin Eagle bikes only...???... :nixweiss:
...just wondering IF anyone is running these?
Thanks...

2000 & 2001 SERGs came with SHARK FIN end caps not fish tails. The two are similar but not identical.

Kool.....thanks for the correction.... 8)
Just noticed Harley P & A catalog only has Shark Fins listed...pg. 508.
Got confused with Fish Tails....thanks.
Think these end caps impede air flow?
Just wonderin'...

Maybe very minimal increase in backpressure. Never heard of anyone actually comparing them on a dyno.

:-\
They are strictly for the "look"..................Dino runs have shown them to be significant power robbers. No one with a desire for power increase wants or needs them. :drink:

Figured as much...
Guess they would make a kool set of bookends..... :coolblue:
Thanks...

The sharkfins are now out of production and will make your bike a complete classic and worth more someday if you want to sell it. There are a few out there for sale but are missing odds and ends and greatly affect the value of the bike. If you have the choice keep your classic looking stock or keep all the original parts including the bookends.

How do you tell the difference ?

Here's a set of mufflers complete with shields and sharkfin tips. They want $224 for the pair.

They say there's a bit of pitting, but if it's just the tips, having them rechromed could be a good option I guess.

Check out the eBay link Dan provided above. Both styles are shown.

I hated them. Couldn't take them off soon enough. They are currently lost in the garage somewhere.

I have had numerous mufflers on my 2001 SERG and went back to the stock "shark fins" because I love the way they look and they give the illusion the bike is longer. I have not noticed a decrease in performance with or without the "shark fins" but I gutted my mufflers and added "Big City Thunder" baffles in the head pipes. Sounds good and right back pressure.
They are getting hard to find so I picked up an extra set on ebay in case I damage one.
-
"To each his own" as the saying goes. I prefer to run something other than the shark fins but do agree that they're very distinctive and, like you, I found an extra set "just in case" & stashed them away in case I ever do decide to sell (but not likely).

...essence of the bike :2vrolijk_21:

I believe most of the newer "fishtails" and "shark tails" are nothing more than an additional pieces welded to a CVO-type or tapered muffs. I believe these are called shark tails.
The old fishtails were some of the the worst exhaust because the shape of the fishtail choked the outlet and killed power.
As I remember most fishtails were straight baffleless pipes and "frapped" when accelllerated and really "frapped" when decelerated.
IMO kinda sounds like a stuttering hair-lipped duck.
Just my opinion, Bob

I have an original set if anyone is interested. Cant remember if the heat shields are still with them but Ill dig them out should anyone inquire. Have the original stubby windshield too.
