44k and the Big Red One died.

After a bike bath I decided to do a "dry-off" run and stop by the local HD.  As I pulled in I heard the most God-awful clacking noise from the motor.  As I shut her down I get a puff of smoke from the A/C/.

"WTF?", says me.  After rolling around to service with my fingers crossed I find out that the ESP is on the actual last day!  Been meaning to get that taken care of, but timing is everything.   :bananarock:

Flash forward:  Just got back from dealer.  Service guys says I'm basically getting a new motor.  Cranks, lifters, cams, cam plate, oil pump, the works.  Best part is that they are going to throw on the 117 jugs I've been storing in my garage for the last couple of months - labor covered.

Service writer said something to the effect of "it got out of round and took out the lower end."  I think I have read about a know issue with the 110 cranks.  That's what I suspect, anyway.  Who knows?

So, for the deductible and the cost of a dyno tune I'm getting a "new" motor with an upgrade.  We shall see...

Not yet.  Not sure if I missed the boat on that one.  Funds kinda tight right now so we'll have to see.

Now is the time to get the bottom end done right and you will have a much smoother motor and more reliable. Its not cheap but worth every penny. Darkhorse Crankworks or similar.

Agreed.  I already twisted the crank and now I'm adding another 7 ci and a cam to the mix.  Thank you for the recommendation.

Apparently, I ride a little harder than I thought.   ;D
