Title: 2015 CVO street glide rattles
Post by: 2soaper on May 07, 2018, 09:56:59 PM
Maybe I'm becoming hyper sensitive but it seems to me my bike when at idle is rattling annoyingly every so often until I give it a bit a gas then it'll stop.  Could this be a symptom of a future problem I'm getting ready for a 3K road trip and I don't want any motor problems with this 110.  I have around 18K on this bike....  TX's in advance for feedback!

I put S&S Premium lifters, quickie adjustable pushrods and locker rockers in my 2016 CVO Street Glide, made a big difference in noise, I also had 18k on it and still under warranty, but I didn't want any problems and lose riding time if a lifter failed, also the stock lifters looked brand new

Mine does the exact same and I’m told it’s the comp. I’m having it looked/replaced and a washer/spacer at R and R cycle per there recommendation.

With 18k miles, and considering the lifter failures many people have had with 110's between 10k and 20k miles, changing the lifters seems like a reasonable preventative part replacement IMHO.  That doesn't mean the noise you are hearing is coming from the lifters though, that's more likely to be what 1roadking mentioned, the compensator or primary chain adjuster, both of which have a history of creating rattling noises.  Lifter rollers tend to squeal, not rattle.

Yes I rode over to the dealer and they suggested the same thing the Comp might be a bit loud I'll probably go ahead and ride it this trip and replace when I get back from the planned ride I have.  I asked about the lifters which was my concern and he responded the the Screaming Eagle ones are much better that the 107.

Tell that to all the folks around here with 2013 and later CVO110's who had those SE lifters (stock from 2013 thru 2016) fail just like the earlier lifters.  It appears those lifters may hold up a bit longer, but many have or will fail.  The root cause of the problem isn't the lifters.
