Title: Ouch
Post by: nidan on May 04, 2007, 04:00:27 PM
Coming home after Karate class last night, guy ran a red doing a U turn (left turn only light) cut me off, after extreme braking and a nice fishtail I ended up just touching his bumper as he sped off , apparently DUI.

Luckily a very nice couple , the guy was a rider , Helped me and the bike up and made sure I was ok.
I was fortunate that it was right at a gas station, and I was able to pull in to check out the bike . The couple pulled in behind me just to double check.

Where ever you are Thank you and bless you.

Only damage to the bike was a small nick on the end of the brake lever and scratches on the mirror, and it knocked the choke loose. .....LUCKY

I'm a bit banged up but will recover , no broken bones.

Still a bit sore and shakey , but am counting my self very fortunate.  It could have been much worse.

Nidan,  I am so sorry to hear about this incident.  Thank goodness you will heal in a few days, but that idiot that caused this to happen is going to end up killing someone and/or themselves some day.  People who drive like that don't get in a close call like that and never do it again.  I am glad to hear you made it out alive. Sorry about your bike.  Heal Well and Fast!

Nidan,
Glad you made it out in one piece!  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
We all can use this as a heads-up reminder that it can happen to any of us at any time. Ride like you're invisible!

Bummer Nidan and glad the damage was minimal. A$$hole deserves a serious thumping and hope that somehow he gets his. Glad you're ok!!!

Thanks to all, the car had out of state plates and sped off before anyone could catch a plate # as my going down blocked traffic a bit.  I'm sure karma will catch up with him .  I'd certainly like a few minutes on the dojo mat with that individual to express my feelings .

After 23 years of riding this is only my second time down, good skills , good equipment and good luck prevented it from being worse.  Ride safe , and keep the shiny side up .   I'm still surprised I didn't get even a little scratch on that pretty WG3 paint!

Nidan,  Glad to hear you are ok & the bike suffered little!  Sounds like you did a great job of avoiding a more serious situation.  Sorry the guy did not stop to help you or check to see if you were ok - it amazes me that he was so careless.  Its not easy driving in and around the Atlanta area drivers are really bad.

Hang in there, the bike can be fixed, ride safe.

Well this morning was a rude awakening , clarity has more or less returned, along with the feeling in my right arm.

I hobbled out to the scooter and noticed the damage was just a bit more than I thought.. the pipes are all gnarled up, a  a few nicks on the brake pedal and rear turn signal .. .

I'm trying to think of this as a perfect excuse for upgrading,  ordered replacement HD "split vision"  teardrop mirrors that include standard and a blid spot, flame levers . I had been thinking of getting some 2 into 1's  now I can get a power boost and get rid of the uglies.

I'll try to buff out the other parts as it's minor damage

. . . I'm trying to think of this as a perfect excuse for upgrading . . .

Now that's the right OCD attitude! :2vrolijk_21:

Sorry to hear of the mishap, nidan, but glad to hear you (and the bike) are on the mend!

Glad you are OK....close calls shake you up for awhile.  Rode this weekend on an organized, very unorganized ride for Women in Need.  A lot of inexperienced riders....one gal lost control of her Heritage Softail & went off into the woods, she was lying down when we went by....bike upside down with wheels in the air.  Hope she is OK....she was getting assistance from other riders...ambulance on the way.  Time to refresh ourselves with safety procedures and watch out for the other guy, especially in cars!   Seems to be a little wild out there this Spring!

Heal up and get back on the road.

Nidan - sorry to hear about this and glad you are ok.  Makes my blood boil as well - drivers like that should not be allowed on the road.

You have a positive attitude about the whole thing, and that is to your advantage.

Just catching up after the weekend and bummed to hear of your incident Nidan.

Good to see you are taking the postive (as much as possible) attitude toward the event.  Good luck with the add ons.
