Folks,
Many of you probably remember hurricane Ivan fron SEP 2004. That storm took out the east bound bridge of I-10 spanning Pensacola Bay. I crossed the temporary bridge (grated) ONCE, and I swore I'd never cross another grated bridge again. That written:
In Memphis, are the I-40 and I-55 bridges spanning the Mississippi River grated or solid concrete?
Which bridges in the St. Louis area are solid concrete?
Other than that, I'm pretty familiar with how to get to Sikeston and crossing the Mississippi via that route.

We crossed the Mississippi in Vicksburg back in April...wasn't a problem, I-20. No grates from what I recall but could be mistaken.

The bridges in Memphis are either concrete deck or asphalt surface, no metal deck. The bridge at Dyersburg, TN (I-155) is concrete too.

Agree...but it was a lmost a year ago so I don't rember too well!
Returning in April, I crossed in Davenport, IA so that won't help.

Now there are two more bridges that you would have to use to cross if you went up to Cairo, IL, both of those are concrete but they are fairly narrow.

I'm working jobs in Dyersburg and Sikeston right now. Dyersburg is solid, At cairo both the ohio and Mississippi bridges are solid, but they are under construction. They're being repainted. Not a big issue, but, you have to stop mid span and wait as they are both one lane right now. Gives you a good feeling of how much movement a bridge has when you're sitting still on a harley and a semi comes by the other direction.

Now THAT sounds very cool. I know those two bridges of which you speak. One right after the other. Heading west the one crossing the Mississippi is on US 60/62, and the one crossing the Ohio is US 51/60. Seems I recall a concrete factory in the vicinity.............Been awhile, and of course it could be that acid I dropped 26 years ago in college. :2vrolijk_21:
