More vintage SERG coverage, this time from "Motorcyclist" magazine's May 2000 issue.  An FXDX sidebar, too!  Enjoy! :huepfenjump3: :2vrolijk_21: :drink:

Thanks for posting!  I have that magazine in my CVO file- had completely forgotten it.  I never did find any magazine test of the 2001 model...

I hope the 09 SERG blows away the journalist like this bike did. I guess we will find out in a couple weeks.  :nervous:  Doc

Just thought I'd bump this and another thread up for "martys" in case he hadn't seen them.  Sorry they only show the B/O/W instead of the red (well, actually, no I'm not! :P ::) :huepfenlol2:), but they're a good read, anyway, if you're as interested in the original SERGs as it seems you are.  Hope you enjoy! :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks tHunDer that's a great article  :)  even if they only show the "other" color in the mag.  :nixweiss:  At least we got an honourable mention eh Twolane?  :pepper:

I haven't read it lately, but I think the triple red was the only one with a color matched inner fairing, lower fairing compartment covers, and color matched inserts on the seat.  I have read of some exceptions to the inner fairing color though. I think Twolane had a black one.   Doc

Doc

No offense but, that red 00 SERG is or was the poorest excuse for a color matched inner fairing I have ever seen.

Your right, I couldn't figure it out either. :zstupid: I think you and Twolane had the right idea and matched a real color on the bike.  Doc

No argument from me.  It's not even that it necessarily looks bad.  But it's such a dark red and with zero gloss unless you catch it in the right light you don't know it's not just a normal flat black inner fairing.  I've always assumed they were still thinking no high gloss inner to avoid reflection in the driver's face.  They got away from that with the SEEGs though.  That flat red inner is an odd part.

Maybe it would have looked closer to the darkest red if it had a gloss to it, now its almost like a satin finish. I wonder what would happen if I shot it with a high gloss clear coat ??  Doc

I've thought about that Doc.  Even pulled a stool up beside the bike one evening and sat there considering the question for an entire tall beverage.  These flat originals are so rare though I could never get my head around pulling the trigger.

Even though the look is nothing special I doubt the color/finish would be easily duplicated.  All things considered a primered original seemed the more prudent piece to work with.

Just reading the last few posts I was sitting here thinking the same thing Twolane  :confused5: It sure would look nice but you could never go back :nixweiss:

That's my feeling.  Instead get a primered new or a good used off eBay.  Then get a good paint shop to match the midnight red.  Save the original in a nice padded box.

From what I remember there were a few triple reds with black inner fairings, so I quess you could narrow your search somewhat and only count the ones with the flat red ones.  ::)  Doc

Over the years I've seen three that had the standard flat black inner fairing.  Mine happened to be one of them.  Then was fortunate enough to score one of the correct (but boring) flat red ones not too long after getting the bike.

Given how similar their appearance is in some lighting conditions it'd be an understandable error if a little stock got mixed.  Especially as informally as CVO production was apparently handled ten years ago.  Color matched to the midnight black sure is better though.
