Title: Oil Cooler Oil Line Routing
Post by: SimonNottsUK on August 23, 2010, 12:05:12 PM
Hi there to all you lucky FLTRUSE riders.

Can you answer me one question;

On my 2009 FLHTCUSE4 HD routed the oil cooler hose over the top of the nice chrome voltage regulator.

Have they made a better job on the 2011 FLTRUSE?

Sorry no pics, but hopefully you'll know what I mean.

Simon

Simon, I have not seen any of the '11 CVOs in person.  But a buddy just took delivery yesterday of a '11 Ultra Limited which has the oil cooler (black, not chrome).  And yes, it does have the oil cooler line (one line) going over the top of the cooler.  I suspect that the CVO bikes are the same.  Doubt the moco would change something just for them imo.  Hope I'm wrong because while it does not look too bad over a black oil cooler I think that a black line over a chrome oil cooler would stick out like white socks with a black suit and black shoes.

Mine has the oil hose ran out and up the front of the chrome cover also. Looks like crap, never noticed until was cleaning last Sat. Going to try and reroute during next fluid change.

 The '08 models were not like that. For some reason in '09, they changed it.

If you come up with an engineering change on re-routing the line please share it with me and others. I had an 08 SEUC and I didn't have this issue but on my 10 SEUC it looks terrible!!

check out the stainless braided oil cooler hoses that we installed on the 2009 SERG's.  Not user friendly to change the oil filter but a lot better looking than the fugly oem hoses.

last.  Hose is bulk 3/8 ID stainless braid and fittings are Earls clamp style.  Any good auto parts store should have this or be able to get them.

Thanks for the pics.

I'll have a look at mine when it arrives, maybe look to do the same.

Thanks

ypu're welcome.  I came up with this shortly after I got my SERG.  Posted it on "our" forum and quite a few did the same modification.  Got about 15000 miles on the mod without problems (except for the oil filter hassle).  Good luck.
BTW-now has chrome tie wraps instead of black (got ground hard for that one  lol)
